Having abandoned hair producting, makeupping, getting "dressed" or any other form of morning get-ready-ing (which is one of my least favorite parts of working), I woke every day with a new crazy hairstyle, sometimes from letting a few layers of caked-on dried Adriatic salt stay there overnight, sometimes from having slept so soundly that the night passed without a toss or a turn, resulting in some outrageously lopsided curls. Not normally a person who is obsessed with my hair, it may be strange that this is one of the main things to remember about Croatia. I planned a much longer post about the trip, which was wonderful. But life has already gotten in the way, so I leave you with some photos. Above are a few of my favorites, but you can also check out the whole collection, which is broken down into digestable pieces, or just a selection of favorites, tastefully edited by Chris and me.
Now about Italy.

Two main things. First, the hare papradelle at Don Beta, Volterra. It's made of cute little bunnies, I'm sorry. I can't stop thinking about it. Second: we only spent one day in Rome, and admittedly I suspected the ruins would be overrated (Chris did not), but no - holy holy crap the Colesseum and the Pantheon took us by complete surprise. We arrived at the Colosseum as soon as it opened, and had it practically to ourselves. Oh, and third (I lied): Cecilia and Podere Torre. We could not have had a more gracious host in a lovelier place, even though it rained almost the entire time. If you're ever in Chianti, stay there and pass our greetings on to Cecilia, Rocky, and Luna. Above are a few favorites from Italy, but you can also check out the whole collection in wee pieces or just our favorites.
Someday we'd like to return to both countries, for longer this time (especially to Rome, where we did not spend much time because much was closed in August). Until then, we'll page through our pretty pictures and try to retain some of that vacationy feeling, the one that, oh yeah remember that? helps you keep in mind what is really important.
Oh, and here's a knitters' bonus: a yarn shop window in Trogir!
Update: And I almost forgot - fiber-enthusiast bonus II - check out the gallery show of amazing felted garments we stumbled on in Trogir!
Posted by jess at August 31, 2007 10:00 AM | TrackBackWow! What amazing pictures! It sounds like you had a fantastic time!
(And I totally hear you on the vacation luxury of not having to do morning prep to go to work. It's a very small luxury among the many you get to enjoy on a good vacation, but it means a lot.)

Posted by: yaiAnn at August 31, 2007 12:34 PMWell as a curly haired girl myself, those curls look quite nice for not being done :0) The other day I logged all my food (I keep a diary) the day before but I ate 2 things that weren't in the log-A fig and a plum :) I thought of you.
(And you're probably thinking "who is this crazy girl?" I stumbled on your blog while doing research for my Norwegian Stockings and now am a faithful reader. If you're interested my blog (with my friends) is www.knittingskeinks.blogspot.com) =D
Posted by: Chelsea at August 31, 2007 12:58 PMEnvy is absolutely seeping out of my pores. Note to friends and family: could you please stop getting married on the east coast so we could save up our travel budget for a fabulous trip abroad? I want to go to Croatia NOW! And I also want to stay at Podere Torre. Maybe I could just go live there and help them work the olive orchards, do you think?

Posted by: valentina at September 22, 2007 5:32 PMOne knows that today's life is high priced, nevertheless some people need money for different stuff and not every one earns enough cash. Thence to get quick loan and small business loan will be a proper solution.
