Interweave's Spring 2007 preview is up. Gotta hand it to them, I like this issue. All you have to do is look at the list of designers to get that they're on the right track over there - they've brought in many more designers who started on the internets (e.g. Eunny Jang, Jodi Green, Stefanie Japel, and of course Grumperina!) and mixed them up with some of the most creative of the established knitwear designers (Véronik Avery, Nora Gaughan). I'm having a hard time with the little photos, but my favorites so far are Eunny's Entrelac Socks (though are they comfortable to wear? Seems like all those ridges on the inside might be rough on the tootsies), the Dollar and a Half Cardigan, and Stefanie's Cable-Down Raglan. That woman sure squeezes some awesome stuff out of a top-down pattern. Nothing strikes me as truly bizarre this time 'round, though I imagine Almost Felted's FHBF will have a field day with the knitted skivvies (it makes me uncomfortable just to look at that thong).
Posted by jess at January 24, 2007 9:41 AM | TrackBackI think Stefanie's sweater looks great. Next time you're up, maybe we can get him to review the most recent VK, and this if it's here.
Posted by: Lauren at January 24, 2007 11:09 AMThanks for the heads-up on the new Interweave issue preview. Being in Ireland, I don't always hear the 'word on the street' and so definitely appreciate your sharing the news!
Posted by: Cheryl at January 24, 2007 11:16 AMseriously... a knitted thong? takes pilling to a whole new uncomfortable level.
Posted by: margaux at January 24, 2007 11:22 AMyep, i like a lot of stuff in this issue too! but did you notice that almost 20% of the projects are using a bamboo yarn? it's so strange. not that there's anything wrong with bamboo. it's just that i never think of it as being very popular. now maybe it will be!
Posted by: gleek at January 24, 2007 11:28 AMI was a little thrown off by the thong and bra, but otherwise, looks like a cute issue (however, yet another one where I really only see myself making the socks and maybe one of the raglan tops). :) good designs, though!
Posted by: jess at January 24, 2007 11:34 AMDefinitely one of the most promising issues in a while - it's got me hankering to make lacy little tanks and tunics for summer layering.
Posted by: Ruth at January 24, 2007 11:41 AMI think my first order of business is to make the Keyhole Top by Kate Gilbert... the thong, however, is NOT on my list.
Posted by: Toni Jo at January 24, 2007 12:42 PMNo, no, a thousand times no to the knitted thong. But yes, yes, a thousand times yes to Veronik Avery's Dollar and a Half Cardigan -- I can't wait to get this issue (and it will be nice to have it in my hot little hands in time for Stitches West!)
Posted by: Sarah at January 24, 2007 12:46 PMi really liked the top-down cables as well... looks really elegant and fun to knit. overall SO much better than the last issue.
Posted by: amisha at January 24, 2007 1:50 PMEunny's socks are all kinds of awesome - although I'm curious about how they would feel on, too.
Posted by: Jen at January 24, 2007 1:56 PMThanks for the warning on the thong. It was kind of like when my sister tells me when the scary part of the movie is coming--it still made me jump, but not nearly as bad as I would have if I hadn't known.
Posted by: jenna at January 24, 2007 4:13 PMI absolutely agree with you - this issue looks so much better than the last few. I'm actually excited to get my issue.
Posted by: Stephanie at January 24, 2007 6:57 PMThanks for posting the link to the new issue. Ditto on the cable down and it looks like (at last) the Bauhaus Fair Isle might be a nice men's sweater. I've had serious trouble finding good patterns for my DH but this might be the one.
Posted by: Cabstand at January 24, 2007 7:01 PMThanks for the link to the Interweave preview -- I'm so glad they're including designs from the knit bloggers we've all come to enjoy!
Posted by: nona at January 24, 2007 7:51 PMMust. Knit. Bonsai.
Seriously, thanks for posting this! I could have passed on almost everything in the last Interweave. Spring 2007 has me salivating! Although, Angela's Apron is a curious little number.
