UPDATE: I've started a new group on Flickr, called Destash & Restash, just for yarn destashers, where you can post photos of the lonely yarn you'd like to destash to be snatched up by other knitters with love to give. Spread the word!
Now that I have a few days worth of free time*, a little stash pruning is in order. Leave a comment if you're interested in any of these.
Phildar Steppe - 7 balls, Ecru
20% wool, 75% acrylic, 4% viscose
120 meter/50g per ball
17 sts x 25 rows per 4"
$15
There's enough here to make the smallest size of the lovely sweater pictured above. If you buy the yarn, I'll throw in the (French) pattern.
Schaefer Yarn Anne - 1 skein
60% merino wool superwash, 25% mohair, 15% nylon
One 4 oz. skein - 560 yards
Fingering weight - 7/St/in.
$15
Here's a maybe for the chopping block. You'll remember that some time back I was momentarily obsessed with being the world's last knitter to make Orangina. I bought way more than enough red South West Trading Company Bamboo in their new super-soft configuration. While I still love this yarn, and love the color, it really calls for just the right pattern. And I've lost the fire in my belly to make Orangina. So unless I can identify a good pattern for this, it's going to be evicted from the stash. We have here 1000 yards. Any suggestions?
*and about that Bar thing, it's over, and won't be discussed here again until November, when the results come in. Seriously, ixnay on the arbay alktay. ;-)
Posted by jess at July 27, 2006 12:25 PM | TrackBackit's over? like over over?! sweeet!
so what are the plans between now and november?
I'll take the bamboo if you decide to part with it. I need it for the lotus blossom tank on the cover of this summer's IK.
Congratulations on getting through the bar!
Great idea w/ the Destash & Restash on Flikr! I am sure I can rummage around some stash to send off to a more loving home!
Posted by: Skylar at July 27, 2006 2:29 PMglad to hear it's all over and you're back with us!!! the yarns look yummy but i'm gonna have to pass. i've stashed too much lately myself!
Posted by: gleek at July 27, 2006 2:35 PMHi there! I would love to take the Schaefer Yarn Anne off of your hands. Send me a note to let me know what you think. Thanks!
Posted by: Karen at July 27, 2006 2:43 PMIf no one's spoken for the Phildar yet, I'll take it off your hands. I've been waiting for you to decide you wanted to get rid of it!
Posted by: Cheryl at July 27, 2006 2:44 PMCongrats on completing that thing that shall not be mentioned!
Posted by: Lisa at July 27, 2006 2:46 PMexcellent idea! Now to take pictures of my neglected yarn that is looking for love from someone else.
Congrats on finished That-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named! And I was thinking of picking up that exact shade of bamboo for a Knit & Tonic Sizzle... maybe we could be Sizzle-twins?
Posted by: Lisa at July 27, 2006 4:38 PMGreat idea! You might want to consider the Fad-Classic from Knit and Tonic for your bamboo. I'm looking at doing the same with my chocolate bamboo that was originally intended for a summer clapotis.
Posted by: Jen D. at July 27, 2006 4:54 PMWe get our results in October...and I've never been as tired as I was this afternoon when I came home & took a 4hr "nap." :)
Posted by: cindi at July 27, 2006 8:35 PMCongratulations! I also finished the thing that shall not be mentioned in Houston today. Till November...
Luckily knitting uses different hand muscles. I don't think that I will be able to write by hand for awhile.
Posted by: Lisa at July 27, 2006 8:51 PMCongrats on finishing! Destashing is a good idea. Most of my yarn is wool so maybe I should do it know before it gets cold again and I start thinking that I really need all that wool.
My cats always ignore my yarn but my dog is obsessed with alpaca. Most everything else he ignores but if I come home with new alpaca, he sniffs and sniffs and sneaks in a lick or 2 if he thinks I'm not paying attention. I wonder alpaca is so interesting.
I'd love the bamboo!
There's a great pattern on Knitty that uses bamboo. It's in the Archives and it's called Bamboozelle.
Bamboo baskets done in basket weave.
what a great idea! a perfect excuse to clear up some room in my stash before it's time to stock up for the winter!
Posted by: megan at July 29, 2006 6:57 AMtry a clapotis with the bamboo. it would be lovely... clapotis is a knitty shawl pattern. I am on my 4th. it's special...
Posted by: nancy at July 29, 2006 8:25 PMHas nobody else suggested the Lotus Blossom Tank from the Summer '06 IK? I think it's even the recommended yarn. Anyway, it's a quick knit & a pretty tank, though the smallest size might still be a bit big on you (33 3/4", I think?). You would definitely have a good bit of yarn leftover--probably close to 450 yards. . .

Posted by: hellahelen at August 3, 2006 11:24 AMK Pixie has several SWTC patterns for bamboo. I think the red would go really well with either the Ballerina top or the Sweet Heart top.

But I'm also interested in it if you decide not to use it.
