Flash Your Stash Day 2006

It's Flash Your Stash Day 2006!

Flash Your Stash Day: The Big Picture

I present you my drastically streamlined stash. Click on each image for details about the yarns and the projects to which they're devoted:

And in the spirit of disclosure, here's the rest of my recently re-organized craft cabinet for you!

Flash Your Stash Day: Whole Craft Stash

A word about the size of the stash. It's lots smaller than last time you saw it in its entirety, and almost everything (with the exception of the sock yarns) is dedicated to a project. This took a lot of restraint, and a lot of purging - I parted with some lovely yarns, and resolved not to keep scraps hanging around. I've also tried not to buy yarn anymore without a specific project in mind... fabulous unused yarn just makes me feel guilty. I've learned that I think more in terms of fitting a yarn to a project than fitting a project to a yarn, so this method of stash-keeping fits better. Sadly, this stash philosophy has also forced a limit on my participation in Secret Pal-type exchanges. While I love the idea of SP, it only exacerbates my problem on the receiving end, especially since SPs send such lovely, guilt-inducing things! ( I hope that doesn't make me a pariah in the knit blogging community.) Finished project exchanges like Stitch Ya Neck Out are a much better fit, so next time I get the swappin' bug, that's where you'll find me!

Can't wait to see other stash flashers this weekend!

Wow, I'm so impressed by your streamlined stash! I think SYNO was a great idea, and much less "up in the air" than other exchanges. And, no, what you say doesn't make you a pariah :). I've never been a fan of Secret Pal, there's even a button on my sidebar (along with a few tongue-in-cheek blog entries).

I never plan on doing any form of secret pal exchange, but I'd be happy to be your overt pal and send you some leftovers I can't bear to throw away. Maybe they could mingle with your nice leftovers and something fun could be produced.

your stash is soooo neatly organized! mine is so not!

Wow. So beautiful. So restrained.

beautifully photographed yarn stash.

There's something nice about neatness; I wish that my stash could be neater...!

Great job on the paring down of your stash and organising it! Did you make the wood crates that hold the yarn? I love your craft cabinet.

I am in awe of how organized and tidy you are!

I love your pared-down stash. Its so clean, organized, and reasonable. You are my stash hero :-)

Posted by: Diana at April 1, 2006 11:04 AM

The organization is almost as neat as the yarn! :)

I keep my stash to a minimum, too. I love the way yours is organized, though...mine is all piled in baskets. I may need to start a search for the perfect (small) yarn cabinet!

You are so tidy! It seems you are in control of your (lovely) stash. Good job!

I greatly admire it. the whole of it. the pretty cabinets, the fact that you *only* have betrothed yarns, the fact that there is so little of it. well done.

I admire your restraint!

That's a great stash philosophy! I could use a little less fitting the project to the yarn thing too ;0)

whoa. I LOVE you new banner. It is beautiful. Happy Spring!

I need to flash my stash...but I'm going to have to do it on Tuesday, as I'm gone all weekend. I think it counts...I just won't download the official button or anything. I think your stash philosophy is great, and I'm operating the same way these days. It seems like I get better results when I fall in love with a project and fine the perfect yarn for it, rather than the other way round.

I love your new banner! Iris? And I'll echo the others: what impressive organization of your stash!

Posted by: megan at April 2, 2006 7:11 PM

Ohmygod, your new banner is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

My stash is sparse and coma-inducingly boring. Your stash is so organized and purty. I'm so jealous. Le sigh.

Oh you have so much self-control! Impressive.
How do you get to be a part of a Secret Pal exchange or Stitch Ya Neck Out? I am really intrigued. I love the communal knitting scene!
