Your scarf is absolutely gorgeous! Having seen it, I think I have to get some Colinette Skye (probably for arm-warmers and a hat), but am hesitant to order it from the UK without knowing how it feels. Is it itchy at all? Or very soft? Quite warm? Your comments on the yarn would be helpful. Thanks.

i know, i know, Sandra - the Lantern Moons. a friend got me a lovely $20 gift certificate at Purl, and as you know the yarn there is so spendy, I thought I'd splurge on those needles instead. they are indeed wonderful, but not great for train knitting because so long - i'd rather have my addis and avoid poking already-surly-looking strangers while knitting on the F.

as for the skye, there are US sources. your best bet is definitely eBay - I bought mine there for, i think, $14.50 / skein from US seller "juliepoolies." UK seller "Cucumberpatch" also has low shipping and is a pleasure to deal with.

Another option is kaleidoscope yarns (though it's pricier). here's a link:

for some reason i can't find the color card, but you could refer to the colinette website if necessary.

i can't characterize this yarn as soft. it's on the rough side, actually, something like new wool. less scratchy / itchy than rough. the scarf itself, however, turned out pretty comfortable and it is VERY VERY warm and thick.

i haven't tried washing it yet, though, and if it's too itchy i bet handwashing it with fabric softener would help.

anyway, conclusion: it would make gorgeous armwarmers! i tend to have an itch-sensitive forehead though, so i think the hat would be a matter of personal preference.

i think i'm going to make a pair of mittens with my leftover skein.

it's a shame that the yarn is itchy- because it is beautiful stuff but i'm a little sensitive. and those needles are amazing! i would love to have a pair myself...

it's not a duh question at all! just a tip from my LYS - ending with p1 makes a more attractive edge by keeping it from curling under so much.
