Pattern: Spherey from Unusual Toys for You to Knit and Enjoy by Jess Hutchison [Ravelry]
Yarn: Louet Gems Sapphire
Needles: US 9 DPNs
Recipient: Baby Schlanderson
Notes: Meet Legume P. Spherey! He and Spherey, who lives with my mom, are first cousins by marriage. Legume goes by his middle name, Pea, and as of yesterday he moved out to the suburbs - Nyack, to be exact - to live with Chris' cousins and await the birth of their baby boy. Since Pea is a dude, he'd never been to an all-ladies baby shower, and tolerated estrogen overload yesterday with aplomb. He patiently awaited his turn to be gifted:

And he didn't even mouth off when treated roughly at the hands of a human who, perhaps, hadn't heard of his noble breed before.

So, I'd say his first day with the Schlandersons was a success.
I can't say enough about Jess Hutchison's adorable patterns. There's something about this guy that just talks right to your heart, even though he's nothin' but a globe with legs. I feel like these patterns fell off the radar a few years ago when Jess stopped blogging and stopped printing copies of her delightful pamphlet "Unusual Toys for You to Knit and Enjoy" in the face of what seemed to be overwhelming demand. I hope Jess doesn't stop publishing for good - and let me be the first to say, psssst . . . Jess! The last few years have brought us blurb.com and others . . . did somebody say "reprint"? :-)

You've given me a great idea for a future baby gift.... There is actually an adorable childrens book called Lil Pea and it would go so well with that little knitted guy.
Congrats to the soon to be parents. :)
