Banana Bread

We've only been married a week, and already, we've welcomed a brand new member into our household. Everybody, meet The Mixer! Mixer, meet Everybody!

hello gorgeous kitchen aid v. gourmet banana bread

Everybody, The Mixer is responsible for the deliciousness below:

banana bread

Banana Bread, from the August 2003 issue of Gourmet. The best banana bread we've ever had. (Except my late grandma's, with the cream cheese frosting, which wins points for sentiment. Grandma couldn't let bananas go to waste!). Unbelievably moist. Unbelievably light. Moistness may be due to the crème fraîche. Lightness, well, all that credit probably goes to The Mixer.

banana bread sliced

Banana bread (and a lot of sweet breads) can be too dense, and this one has a perfect spongy texture. This recipe calls for beating the eggs and sugar together for 10 minutes, a feat that would have required that Chris and I stand over the bowl in shifts with our hand mixer, complaining about our measly collective arm strength. I can only imagine this somehow gives the eggs the right treatment for doing their fluffy stuff. Thank you, Mixer!* We love you!

it's love hugs!

Next up: Sharp Knives and the Women Who Love Them!

* and most especially, thank you to Chris' parents, for this wonderful wedding gift!

Ah, stand mixers. They are the best. Because when you get sick of cakes and breads, then you can make pasta. And then meringues. It's a parade of goodness ahead of you!

I covet your mixer. And what a coincidence, I made banana bread this evening as well. I considered that recipe you linked to but went for a different one on epicurious. I was planning on posting about it this week. It was dee-lish!

I always wished I had registered for one of those when I got married - seriously, what's to lose? love the colour!

Posted by: Natalie B at September 22, 2009 1:13 AM

Love the color. My Kitchen Aid is white, bought back in the day before all these great colors. But still going strong. It was one of the few things I took with me when I divorced, although that's not so appropriate for you to hear right now. Congratulations on your marriage!!

Your new family member is absolutely adorable. I can't understand why me and husband still haven't got one ourselves. I just realize we started our life together from the wrong end... we need to do better!

Hello Mixer, nice to meet you. Welcome to your new home, if your life is like my mixer you'll have a wonderful time. Making bread, grinding fresh meat for yummy yummy burgers, maybe making some ice cream!
My mixer was the best wedding present ever, oh and the rocking rowentta iron.

What a great wedding gift! I love the photos of you hugging it. That's how I feel about my mixer, although, mine is 30+ year-old Phillips and belonged to my mom. He's old, but he's a work horse. I'd love a Kitchen*Aid, but I just can't stand the thought of retiring Phillip.

I know most women would get upset to one for their birthday, but I love mine. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! If I could, I might marry it. You should check out the pasta attachment for it. It's a lot of fun.

MAN I want a standing mixer! That is probably the thing I'm looking forward to most about the prospect of getting married. Best wedding present ever!

We were married in June, and my husband is still remarking on the number of dishes I use to make dinner. How have you got that one worked out?

Posted by: Elizabeth at September 22, 2009 11:19 AM

Congrats!!! I love my kitchenaid mixer as well- it is a godsend.

I got one of those when I was married too (somewhat delayed for various reasons) but I feel the same way too. I love mine.

Posted by: Sara at September 22, 2009 1:06 PM

This is what being married is all about ;)
I put a Kitchen Aid on my registry assuming that no one would give us such a generous gift, and I was astounded to get one.

Posted by: Veronique at September 22, 2009 2:17 PM

Oh yes, I am in love with this mixer too and one day I will have mine as well.

Is it bad that the only reason I wanted to get married for years was to get a cobalt teal / turquoise Kitchen Aid stand mixer?! Hahaha.

Congrats on your recent wedding, and new pet! I'm going to bookmark that banana bread. Yum!

Got my KitchenAid mixer when I was married 25 years ago. Still going strong. Best mixer ever! Try throwing some finely chopped black walnuts in your banana bread next time. My mother's recipe calls for them and her banana bread is delish!
