Yummmmmy. That yarn looks amazing.

I like the idea of a little colour in your wedding accessories. I don't think the shrug would lose any specialness by being wearable later -- you would still remember it each time you put it on as the shrug you wore on your wedding day, no? The Autumn Jasper colourway above looks like it would strike the right balance.

Pink could be sweet and different, and perfect if it matches other colors in your wedding. I've never used that yarn, but it looks amazing.

Oh, I am not at all opposed to color! My hesitation is sort of which elements should incorporate it. I would like to wear some bright, punchy-colored shoes, and I am not sure what that means for la shrug, which I think would work best in a softer color.

Both colors are lovely, but if you're going for punchy colored shoes, the softer shade might work better. Maybe your flowers could include the color of the shoes?

First one!

That's a tough call! Both are lovely...

will the first one work with your skin tone? it would wash me out personally.

you've motivated me to cast on for this project - so far, it's fun. just interesting enough to keep my mind working and not so complicated that i can't watch a movie at the same time!

Hmmm...with punchy-coloured shoes I'd probably go with yarn #2.

Hey, I made that shrug a few years ago.

You can check out the results here: http://www.goodcrafternoon.com/?p=17

And I love the colors. Sooo pretty!

mmm hmmm. looks lovely.

I think I prefer yarn #2. Yarn #1 is very nice too. Whichever choice you make, it will look very nice, just different ;-) Does that help?

Road to China Yarn is the answer to any question. I love the stuff (and the gals who run the distributorship ain't too shabby either ;) --local Philly gals I know!

Definitely the pink one!

I just finished a sweater in the pinker yarn! It's really almost a brown in person. The texture is the BEST and it's one of those yarns that's fun to knit with, in addition to being great knit up.

pink!!

Posted by: kym at April 16, 2009 9:55 PM

I'd go with the neutral - you never know how many guests will turn up in pink...

I like the first one, or even the coral on the website. What colour are the shoes, how punchy lol?

Posted by: Shellbean at April 18, 2009 12:57 PM

I don't think you can possibly make a wrong decision! I am partial to the blush colored yarn myself.

I love the pink! I've thought about knitting that off and on since I first saw it in the mag too. that was pre-ravelry though and i always wondered what the back looked like and was scared to knit it without knowing. it's beautiful and will be great for a wedding shrug!

I worry, as another poster said that the first colour might be too pale. I mean, on me for instance it would make me look like I was half dead. Really pale colours wash me out completely.

That said, I *love* colour, and think weddings are the perfect arena for colour. If you think you can pull off the pink, go for it. Me, I really like the coaral, and the peacocky blue from their website.

If your own wedding isn't the perfect excuse to stash a bunch of Road to China, I don't know what is... even if you end up knitting the shrug in something else! I'm still voting for color and would probably try to choose a lighter tint of the shoe color. I take it you haven't found the shoes yet?

Posted by: Sarah at April 21, 2009 1:47 PM

I also planned to knit a shrug or shawl for my wedding day... and then I ended up falling in love with a vintage inspired dress. Now I can't help thinking that topping it with a knitted garment might be a bit too much, you know? So my advise is get your dress/shoes/jewelry/overall style worked out first, then buy yarn. Unless of course you want to pick the dress around the knitting!! :-)

Yeah, so I totally dig this pattern. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
