First, I give you the yarn that makes you look a good 20 years younger than you actually are. . . Vanna's Choice!

I spotted this at Brooklyn's Most Bizarre Yarn Bazaar, Knit-a-Way, and could not resist a photo.
Next: thanks for your insightful discussion of the 365 days project. I am not considering joining, but rather found myself drawn to browsing the pool and individual participants' sets. Some folks raised the point that self-portraiture to such an extreme can be narcissistic, and I am certain that the answer is that for some people it is, and for some people it isn't. My first reaction to the project was, I will admit, the world does not need 365 photographs of me in it. Could I not just take a photograph, any photograph, every day? Sure. But here, I think, is the unique thing about 365 days: you photograph the same thing (you) every day, and every day you have to try to convey something different with the same basic materials. That, I think, is what stimulates creativity. You could just as easily photograph someone else every day, to the same effect, without putting your own face on film, or screen. But that person would probably find that kind of annoying. So best to experiment on yourself. (*)
Minty makes a good point about the project forcing you to do something creative every single day. While I know I could really use something like that in my life, given that my profession is singularly non-creative, I also know I won't commit to it, or even to the less intensive 52 weeks. For now I will occupy myself observing others.
* Which is why, one supposes, some people participate in 365 Days Blithe in which one of those (frankly) creepy big-headed dolls is the subject instead of the photog or a human being. No comment.

And I agree that, if you're going to photograph any person every day for 365 days, it had better be yourself. ;) But whether or not someone should do that.... Well, I guess it all depends on where they go with it, right?
It's funny, isn't it, that I needed one self portrait a day to force some kind of creativity (and not all days are creative!). You'd think that having a crafty blog would suffice :) I'm glad you're a 365 lurker/fan, if not a participant!
Posted by: Mintyfresh at January 29, 2008 12:20 PMYes, Knit-a-way is a completely fascinating bizarro-world place, isn't it?
Posted by: Heather at January 29, 2008 12:47 PMI think I understand what you mean about doing at least one creative thing a day!
aww, i wouldn't mind seeing your mug every single day. . . :)
Posted by: Sandra at January 29, 2008 1:19 PMi've heard that vanna's choice is not so bad for acrylic.. not squeaky at all. and i think that you mean "bazaar". ;)
Posted by: gleek at January 29, 2008 2:16 PMI am doing the 365 for creativities sake and the fact that I like taking pictures, but was starting to relegate it to "special occasions" so this should kick start me back into action.
I like the idea of taking a picture of the same thing. I will try that for 30 days and see how well I do.
Posted by: Peacock Chic at January 29, 2008 3:39 PMDoes anyone else think it's fitting that Vanna's choice happens to be acrylic?
Posted by: Kylie at January 29, 2008 10:09 PMKnit-a-way is so random. I absolutely can NOT shop there any more because I get annoyed by their lack of order. :)
Posted by: Liz at January 30, 2008 12:45 PMHmm... I kind of like the idea of having an outlet for either the box lunches I prepare every day (same box, different contents), or better yet-- MY CATS. (Obsessed?)
Oh, and completely unrelated-- a friend of a friend is taking pictures of a Cheeseburger set from McDonald's every day. What's scary? After 60-some days, it looks mostly unchanged.
::shudder::
Posted by: meranie at January 30, 2008 8:17 PMI nominated you for a You Make My Day Award! Because you do!
Posted by: Amy at February 1, 2008 10:49 AMYou've GOT to be kidding! Vanna's Choice? Hey, I'm gonna throw away all of my night creams, and RUN to Knit-a-Way to buy this yarn. Then, I'ma knit me a mask to wear at night, and see what happens! This is hilarious!
I am heading out to the shop for real, and buy this just for the hell of it; I am SO ready for celebrity yarn––who's next? LOL!
Posted by: sahara at February 1, 2008 3:25 PMI've seen that Vanna's Choice at my local craft warehouse-y store and thought it was weird. Did anyone even know that she was a knitter??
I find 365 Days to be a little weird unless it's a little baby you're photographing in which case it would be cool. A Blythe doll though? That's just creepy.
