Stick to Your Garter Ribs

Yesterday I completed the garter rib portion of the Tangled Yoke Cardigan:

Tangled Yoke Cardigan 001

I have enjoyed the project so far, and am steeling myself for the miles of stockinette to come. But it's nice to be working on a fitted knit again. Speaking of fit, I ended up going with US 3 needles. Given the fact that the smallest size would have 2" of ease for me, more than I typically like, and that I have a track record of my knits stretching a lot upon blocking, I think this was a wise choice. And as it turns out, I'm getting about 3.75" = 24 stitches and am just about hitting row gauge right on. I didn't think I'd *ever* get row gauge on this pattern. So we'll see.

The phony seam on this piece is also most entertaining. EZ fans often rave about how great phony seams are, how finished they make knits look, etc., but I didn't really appreciate how ingenious (and um, easy) it was until this project. Here's a shot of the TYC's fake seam:

On other fronts, the apartment search has (cross your fingers!) taken a turn for the better. THANK YOU for all your commiserating and encouragement.

Update: pssst! I started a Ravelry group for people with, er, a problem:

Jess, it's looking fantastic! That also looks like a great purse peaking out from underneath. Big fat good luck for the apartment search also. Can't wait to see photos.

I'm working on this one now also, and that phony seam just brings so much pleasure :)

Best of luck with the apartment search.

maybe it's just me but i can't see the seam :) maybe it's meant to be that way! i love cashmere. wish i could get my hands on more!

Good plan on the sizing down option. My Tangled is a tad big and I'd wished I made the smallest size. Oh well. Yours is looking good and the stockinette part is not a tedious as you'd imagine. Easy to memorize shaping and then come the sleeves!

Good luck on the apt! Fingers crossed.

I can't wait to see this when it's done--it is already looking beautiful.
Ha, Cashanon. Hmm, will it be a support group, or an enabling one? Whatever, I obviously am going to join.

The TYC is looking good - I'm sure you'll get through the miles of stockinette just fine. Good luck with the apartment. Does cashmere fiber to spin count in your cashanaon group?

Your tangled yoke is looking beautiful! can't wait to see it done! Love the artsy photography shots too :)

That sweater will be beautiful! I can't see the seam either, but I assume you work it as you go by slipping the "seam" stitch every other round? If I recall correctly, that's how EZ says to do it if you don't want to drop the stitch and hook it back up at the end.

now what would possess you to tell chris how much you spent on your bag?

Oy, I'm in the midst of the garter ribs myself. I'm trying to embrace it, though, as I am kind of dreading the plain stockinette... Yours is looking beautiful, BTW!
