First, thanks for your nice comments on L'Slouch! It's without question the new favorite chapeau round these parts.
I'm home sick today, with some crap that Chris lovingly transmitted to me. He made it up to me by bringing me flowers and making a gingery batch of hot-and-sour soup last night, plus not making me do the dishes.

I thought it might be a good day to post a batch of random diggable things:
Oh dear. I go to NYU and was completely appalled when I heard about the "Find the Illegal Immigrant Game". I think I sat there for about five minutes trying to figure out if it was a joke. My suitemate was helping with a protest out in Washington Square I think. I had class and couldn't go... but the same, I can't even imagine who thought this would be a good idea. I know conservatives complain about being "suppressed" at NYU, and stupid games like this REALLY do not help.
Oh. And I'll join the legions and say your L'Slouch is so adorable! :) You wear it so well!
Posted by: Chelle at February 22, 2007 5:17 PMCollege Republicans will always surprise you with the level to which they will take things. I remember seeing a recruiting poster at my undergrad school with the phrase "ex-girlfriend a rabid irrational liberal?" as a rallying point. Ugh. I was lucky enough to get in an argument with some Minuteman type folks outside a BofA this weekend. I'm always astounded at the level of xenophobia here in southern California.
Posted by: Jessimuhka at February 22, 2007 5:26 PMI might have to make some of those slippers. I want to make my house more of a shoeless house, but can't really do that in good conscience without offering something warm for guests' feet.
Posted by: Jodie at February 22, 2007 5:48 PMYeah! Jon the Phildar knitting group! Thanks for the shoutout!
Posted by: Aimee at February 22, 2007 5:54 PMeven, joining it would be better. :)
Posted by: Aimee at February 22, 2007 5:58 PMHey thanks for linking that video! I was able to catch a glimpse of my partner- he was at the protest today! Yes, I am always amazed at the antics of the College Republicans. They did a similar event at my college a few years ago. Oh and thanks for the links to the Phildar group! I'll finally be able to see some things from the magazine actually knitted up- I am sure that will push me over the edge to actually BUY the magazine- instead of drooling over their kid's patterns!
Posted by: tiffanykapri at February 22, 2007 6:51 PMGlad you were well looked after, and are now germ-free. Thanks for the random links, I will enjoy checking them out. As for the NYU stuff, I have no idea why I'm still surprised and appauled at the actions/ideologies of people. But, somehow, I still am - more fool me eh?
Posted by: schrodinger at February 22, 2007 7:35 PMOf course you shouldn't be doing the dishes when you're sick! That's a given ;)
And you can't beat an asian-inspired soup for healing whatever ails ya, I agree ..especially a Vietnamese chicken soup with loads of chilli..kinda steams the germs out I swear.
And thankyou for reminding me about Steinberg's New Yorker cover..it reminds me of my late uncle who read it religiously (and that's not just a figure of speech) and had a print of that cover hanging in the kitchen. Brought back fond memories for me.
Thanks for the Phildar Knitting group plug! I'm joined now and can't wait to see what other people are working on (that whole policy of not naming their patterns with anything but numbers makes it so hard to see others phildar fos).
Posted by: laura b at February 22, 2007 10:24 PMthe soup looks good... hope you're feeling a bit better. thanks for the links today! very excited about strange maps and orange baby sweaters. and the nyu republicans... ugh.
Posted by: amisha at February 23, 2007 9:41 AMI am convinced hot & sour soup has special healing properties - I'm glad it worked for you! And GRRRRRRR to the NYU College Repulicans, what a display of idiocy. I'm sure all of their ancestors miraculously sprung from the ground as full fledged citizens in this country, rather than entering as immigrants.
Posted by: MeBeth at February 23, 2007 9:47 AMthat baby bag is gorgeous! and believe it or not, those things are actually practical since babies can't sleep with blankets in their cribs for the first couple of months. a baby bag would keep her warm!
Posted by: gleek at February 23, 2007 10:14 AMThat soup looks delicious. Hope you feel better soon!
Posted by: seedless grape at February 23, 2007 3:22 PMThanks for the links. The Phildar baby knits are tooo cute. Hope you feel better soon.
Posted by: brooke at February 23, 2007 8:05 PMI'm sorry you're not feeling well; best wishes that your hot and sour soup coupled with not doing the dishes (yeay!) will cure you of your bug. (Wish the same would cure those "NYU Young Republicans", but they might need something more potent...)
Thank you for your very nice comments/link re: that tangerine baby sweater! I've been lurking on your blog for over a year already (sorry, a bit shy), and I really enjoy reading your posts and looking at all your beautiful knits! (that L'slouch rocks). If you think I qualify, I'd love to join your NYC knitters ring; thank you for the suggestion!
Thanks again, and feel better soon!
I'm in bed sick too ... lap top and blog wandering are happy company today ... good to have a few links to keep my spirits up ... love love love those slippers ... so much knitting ... so little time! Hence I'm also knitting a sleeve as I surf!
Posted by: sarah at February 24, 2007 9:36 AMMmmmm Hot and Sour soup. That should help heal you up. Hope you are able to enjoy your weekend.
Posted by: Miss Scarlett at February 24, 2007 2:40 PMI hope you're feeling better! Love the map site....

Posted by: Jill at February 26, 2007 11:00 PMmmmm...hot & sour soup is one of my favorites. Especially when ill. Something about the hot and the sour...mmm...love it.
Posted by: kathleen at February 27, 2007 8:52 AMThanks for the link to strange maps - I love it! And I've already printed out the free pattern for the cable slippers.
Posted by: Nicole at February 28, 2007 12:21 PMFinding the Illegal Immigrant??!! WTF?! That is brutal! It doesn't get much more racist than that. It sounds like something the KKK would have come up with.
Thanks for the link to the slippers. My feet are cold today and my other slippers are in the wash.
Posted by: Dorothy B at March 2, 2007 11:25 AMI am so praying for you that you are feeling better. I keep hoping to find you up and blogging and seeing your gorgeous things as opposed to this soup, which leads me to believe you are very sick or maybe it's the sick looking soup that made you sick? Really, I am trying ot humor you, a little?
