Last weekend I bought a bias tape maker, for the purpose of finishing my Denyse Schmidt oven mitt. Tomorrow I may get ambitous and use the little tool. But today I'm cold (no heat or hot water this morning... AGAIN) and lazy. So instead of showing you that, how about I show you the latest fruit of my materialistic penchant for cute knitting paraphenalia?

Like my new knitting transport? For ages, I harassed Di of Clementine's Shoes for a box bag just like this one, and here it is!
It's got just enough room for a small project and notions. There are pockets inside and Di beautifully topstitched the vintage fabric. Lurve!

But that's not all - look at the wee needle book that came with it:

Eventually I *will* be able to sew a poorly executed version of something like this myself, but until then, I feel safer knowing there are folks like Di in the world, keeping us well stocked.
The Urban Aran inches ever closer to completion. I'm on the last sleeve - then all's left is to knit the collar and, gulp, install the zipper. Here's where it lies right now:

It's not going to be finished in the 20 days it took Jared, but it's coming along.
Posted by jess at January 27, 2007 2:20 PM | TrackBackOh that box bag is lovely! And the needlebook - squeeeeeee! Too cute. I love her designs.

Happy knitting :)
The bag is gorgeous, with the little needle book, so cute.
Great to hear you're on the last leg of Urban Aran.
Posted by: schrodinger at January 27, 2007 6:13 PMGorgeous knitting bag! I love it. Envy is setting in...
Looks like you are making a quick job out of the Urban Aran. Can't wait to see it finished up - a zipper. I have never done one of those yet!
Oh, I am so jealous! I love it, and it's green! Now I'm going to have to dust off my sewing machine and search for a similar pattern! You lucky Knitter you!
Posted by: Julia at January 27, 2007 7:55 PMA beautiful bag! I love the colors. And it looks like the Urban Aran is coming along very nicely, too! Can't wait to see the FO!
Posted by: seedless grape at January 27, 2007 10:26 PMI was worried about the zipper on my Cycling Aran but it was fine! I will say that prep work makes all the difference--I pre-washed the zipper, pinned, basted, and sewed it twice by hand. The thread just disappears, it's cool. I still can't fathom doing it by machine. Shudder.
Posted by: Cirilia at January 27, 2007 11:56 PMOoo, I love the bag! Do you all know about Piddleloop??? If not, you need to check them out. They sew all of their own bags themselves with funky, fun fabric. The small project pouch is a huge hit. Right now, they have small bags with Valentine fabric. You have to hurry, they only make a few. You will love Piddleloop. I discovered them through another blog I read. It's fun to find the cutest stuff all over the country that way. Oh, I almost forgot: GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Debbie at January 28, 2007 10:08 AMI love that bag! Somday, I too, will be able to make bag like that. Honestly the fabric makes the bag, so vintage. I love.
Your picture on your blog make me want to fix mine. The look so professional. Nicely done, Jess. I might have to copy but then I'd have to figure out photoshop and I don't know if I have time to do that right now. Too busy knitting socks like a crazy pregnant woman.
Looking forward to seeing the Urban aran... :)
Posted by: Aimee at January 28, 2007 10:19 AMLove the bag - I must do some sewing again, I seem only to have the energy for sitting and knitting these days!
Posted by: Sal at January 28, 2007 1:02 PMI noticed that bag today--it is so cute! I love everything about it. I think it's time to drag out the sewing machine again....
And that Urban Aran is looking fan-tastic. You are gonna have one happy guy. :)
So envious! That pouch is adorable- the fabric combination is awesome.

The box bag is cute and the needle book is the icing on the cake. Fabulous.
I can't wait to see your Urban Aran when it is done.
Posted by: Dorothy B at January 29, 2007 9:53 PMCute bag! I really like the afghan that it's sitting next to- did you make it? If so, do you remember which pattern you used? So pretty!
Posted by: Kym at January 29, 2007 10:58 PMLucky you! That's so cute! Nice pictures by the way...I love the shot with the totally gorgeous crocheted afghan over the chair. I want to make something like that one day!
Posted by: Julia MacRobbie at January 29, 2007 11:05 PMThank god there are people who can actually sew. Beyond a hem, I'm useless. Amen for bias tape.
How's the sweater shaping up on Chris? Is he excited?
Posted by: Craptina at January 30, 2007 2:11 PMWhat a bag! Luvley. Luvley. (Also love that new sofa of yours; how goes the cat-claw situation?)
Like others, I'm also interested in the afghan. Is this your own creation? It, like the Urban Aran, is looking stunning.
Posted by: kodachrome at January 30, 2007 11:42 PMOooh! Love that bag!
Posted by: Emily S. at January 31, 2007 4:30 AMZippers absolutely terrify me. I was thinking about doing an urban aran for myself but the prospect of sewing in a zipper is totally intimidating.
Posted by: MeBeth at January 31, 2007 9:38 AMVery nice box bag - I love the fabrics. Your Urban Aran looks great (from what I can see). I love the yummy brown color.
Posted by: Stephanie at January 31, 2007 12:11 PMWow, I am loving that bag, the colors, the fabrics, the wee little needle case. Very cute
