Yo, the Winter Interweave preview is up. Looks like there's some great stuff this issue. I didn't renew my subscription after being disappointed by the last few issues (and being disappointed that I received them a week after they came out at my LYS). But this gives me a modicum of hope...

Hit!
Huh?
Cute stuff, lookin' forward to it.
Agreed on the Huh? factor of the Touch Me Tunic. That stuff is so pettable, but what icky shaping at the chest--setting up for creepiness. Esp. when you throw in the sixth grade math teacher factor. ;)
I think that Modesitt's top is kind of cute, the lacing reminds me Marnie MacLean's deciduous cami. The cabernet ribs is very...80s. It should be worn with the mitts.
Posted by: spaazlicious at October 15, 2006 11:10 PMFor a second there I thought you had the issue in hand already.
I will be anxiously checking my mailbox this week, personally I have my eye on the Cardigan for Arwen.
Posted by: schrodinger at October 15, 2006 11:12 PMHuh? Didn't see the hood on the cardigan... not so keen now, I sense a pattern adaptation.
Posted by: schrodinger at October 15, 2006 11:14 PMi, too, decided to not renew my Interweave subscription because I wasn't all that wowed with the patterns they had to offer me. This issue is a bit more promising. I'm quite smitten with that headband. That Eunny sweater is gorgeous. And the socks are cute, I guess.
But too many "huh?" patterns still. eh. i don't get annie modesitt myself. i don't find her patterns appealing. and that top really tops the cake, imho.
Posted by: Sandra at October 15, 2006 11:22 PMOk, I am prepared to be brave, go out on a limb here and say I like the cabernet rib, in fact I like it a lot. But I am also prepared to accept that I may be just looking at the beautiful yarn choice and v. flattering negative ease.
I think my fav is the nantucket jacket.
The ramblin rose...just... SCREAMS: "Must have thin upper arms or suffer the consequences"! The consequences being looking like the side of an ice-cream truck.
oh, and PS; I love veronik Avery's cardi too, particarly that neckline and the contrast edge on said neckline. The patterning however...humm..i dunno, is it a tad too flooble dee doo?
Posted by: Carson at October 16, 2006 12:01 AMI'm with Carson-- I like the Cabernet Rib quite a bit.
Thanks so much for sharing the links!
I love the Equestrian Jacket. The Corded Yoke Pullover scares me. So does that Rambling Rose cardi...there's just too much happening there for me. Eunny's sweater makes me want to weep with joy, it is SO gorgeous.
Posted by: Sarah at October 16, 2006 8:16 AMThis issue and the new Vogue Knitting actually have a few projects that I'd consider! Thanks for putting up your thoughts - and I completely agree!
Posted by: lisa at October 16, 2006 9:07 AMI'm still waiting on my Fall 06 issue. Granted, I'm in Australia and I expect some delay, but two months post- release date and no magazine. I won't be renewing either, but as the Fall 06 issue is the first of the subscription, I have some time to stew about it, especially if I have this much trouble getting each issue.
Makes it hard to get excited about the Winter issue when it's coming into Summer here too!
I agree with your "hits" selection.
Posted by: Jen at October 16, 2006 10:23 AMI'm looking at A Cardigan for Arwen (but why, why the long title?) pretty seriously. I think cardigans that hang open are appealing to my maybe-mommy-to-be side these days. Like my knitting is trying to tell me something...a bit scary.
Posted by: JulieFrick at October 16, 2006 10:49 AMagree on all points.. but i still don't think that i'll knit anything from this issue. once again, i see stuff i LIKE but not stuff that i would MAKE :(
Posted by: gleek at October 16, 2006 11:30 AMCompletely agree with your points, and I love Eunnid sweater, to think that she made that in a mere 5 days....crazy....
I had no idea that the preview was up! Thanks for the heads up.
I hope you won't be horrified, but I love Cabernet Ribs. I think the transparency of the neckline and sleeves is a pretty nifty effect. (In fact, I have a Phildar pattern on my back burner that is somewhat similar).
Annie Modesitt always goes all out and makes things that are completely surprising. This time, unfortunately, it's shocking, in a "what was she thinking?!" kind of way...
The Enid cardigan is very cute! The circles are retro and the shape is classic. Good combo.
So, what will you make?!
I love Eunny's sweater, but I suppose I'd better finish one fair isle project before I start another. Some cute stuff, some not so cute. Ah well, that seems to always be the way (and it's probably good that I don't like everything in a magazine because when would I have to knit all those projects?).
Posted by: Stephanie at October 16, 2006 12:33 PMHey - thanks for the IK tip-off! I am lusting over the Enid cardi - you're right, it's perfect all over - I wouldn't even mess with the colors. That gauge though - mighty fine - that's going to make me think twice!
Posted by: Amanda at October 16, 2006 12:47 PM5 days. I can't believe the Eunny sweater took 5 days.

The girl must be a knitting whirlwind. That sweater is definitely my favorite.
And the jazz hands. Gotta love 'em.
I need to knit almost everything. Especially Eunny's sweater and Véronik Avery's cardigan. AMAZING!
Posted by: elizabeth at October 16, 2006 2:27 PMI heart the Enid cardigan! This sweater may be the project that makes me take a second look at color-work. Going to hold judgement until I have the issue in hand though.
Posted by: Lesley at October 16, 2006 5:36 PMHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! "Jazz hands..." That was brilliant!
"Touch Me Tunic" is just SUCH a bad name for a pattern. The connotations are way too creepy. The tunic itself wouldn't be so bad if it was knit with a different yarn. The pattern is alright. Imagine that in a nice bamboo or silk. Ooh la la! Imagine it with a less repulsive name.... It might be okay....
I, too, lapsed on my subscription... but I might pick this one up. I'm BAFFLED by the corded yoke pullover, though. Just baffled.
Posted by: Jenna at October 16, 2006 8:26 PMi so agree with your knit assessment! i didn't like last issues Modesitt pattern either... i heart veroika too... she's unbelieveable. after i read an article about how she picked up knitting and then just began to design (dammmm!). sigh, one day...
Posted by: maragux at October 16, 2006 9:04 PMI'm loving Eunny's Venizia Pullover. It's gorgeous. I'm looking forward to getting my copy of this one.
Posted by: Kirsten at October 16, 2006 9:31 PMOh my... A few months ago I had a job working wardrobe and I always asked the actors to make Jazz Hands for their continuity photos. Hand warmers cute, but not worth purchase. Eunny's sweater flipping amazing, but way out of my league.
Posted by: Sarah at October 17, 2006 2:59 AMYou can marry Veronik only after I do. Her patterns are gorgeous!!
Posted by: sunflowerfairy at October 17, 2006 12:54 PMwow, the issue is quite impressive! much much better than they have been for sure. i'm loving the blue skies cardigan for some strange reason. i guess could totally see it in some kitchy boutique in nolita.
Posted by: melissa at October 18, 2006 11:04 AMJazz hands! That made me laugh out loud. I am similarly in love with Eunny's and Veronique's sweaters. The drool is collecting...
Posted by: Nonnahs at October 18, 2006 4:21 PMIK brought the Rambling Rose sweater to their booth at the Knit Out and I can really say that that was one of the most beautiful sweaters I've ever seen and definitely on my must knit list. It was really an accomplishment. I also like the equestrian blazer and the waistcoat.
Could this actually be an interesting issue?
Posted by: Ruth at October 18, 2006 6:15 PMEunny's sweater has me shivering with anticipation. The sweater, she will be mine! Mine! That is absolutely drop dead gorgeous.
Your assessments were spot on. Jazz hands made me laugh.
Posted by: Kristen at October 18, 2006 7:52 PMHuh, interesting. And here I actually just resumed my subscription after a year overseas. (BTW, they told me the Winter issue would ship November 1.) Though I will admit that I don't often knit the patterns I like reading about them and getting my own ideas. And I like their stuff a lot better than, say, Knitter's.
Posted by: Kristen at October 18, 2006 10:50 PMI felt the same way about the last few issues of IK - bleck! But this one is a distinct improvement! I 'm partial to Kate Gilbert's Equestrian Blazer, myself.
Posted by: Jackie at October 19, 2006 8:38 AMThanks for the notice about the preview. Lots of nice stuff this time. I too like the Enid Cardigan and the Cardigan for Arwen. Very pretty and very classic. I like how IK doesn't do the outrageously fad thing with big needles that plague other knitting publications.
Posted by: Connie at October 21, 2006 4:59 PMRambling Rose is pretty, but those colours - I'm not so sure of them. Really like the Nantucket. I think the Corded Yoke Pullover could be really hot, in a good way if knit in a a better colour. As far as the skinny arms comment that Carson made - I find that the case for MANY patterns. Even when I was thinner, I didn't have skinny upper arms. Once it was because of a thin layer of fat and bulky even when not toned muscle, now it is a serious layer of fat and bulky muscle.
Posted by: Dharma at October 22, 2006 1:42 PMI don't subscribe but I buy almost all the issues. That equestrian jacket is making me rethink holiday knitting (whom can I drop in favor of more MEMEME? I am terrible). And I agree on the crazy corded yoke pullover: the back is undoubtedly gorgeous. I wonder if you could alter the pattern to only be funky in back and "business" in front, kind of like a mullet?
Posted by: Laura(keet) at October 23, 2006 3:47 PMi'm with ya on the annie modesitt gig. scare me.
i do like the cover cardi, too...think it's nora gaughan. i tend to love her stuff. really classic, fine stitchery, but always with a fashionable twist...like this one with the 3/4 length sleeve.
I already ordered yarn for my Enid and I've already started Arwen. What a great issue this one was. Usually there are only 1 or 2 patterns I like, but this one had at least 3 :)
Posted by: Jen at November 18, 2006 10:05 PMHi everyone. It's a rare person who wants to hear what he doesn't want to hear. Help me! It has to find sites on the: Dale junior. I found only this - dale jr merchandise. However that shouldnt effect tv ratings which have been declining for several years. Dominated nearly the entire race, leading of the laps. Best regards , Jesse from Fiji.
