Sneaky Miss May

Surprises are terrible, aren't they? It's because I love them so much that I find them so difficult to deal with. When I was a kid, there were a few years when I would zealously hunt down every hiding place my mother could devise in our house for stashing birthday presents. Inevitably I'd find the cache because, between the two of us, I had more time on my hands for finding than she had for stashing. And after the victorious rush of finding the place, disappointment would settle in. I'd ruined the surprise. My mother will never believe this, but after I turned 10 or so, I stopped looking (even though I still knew where she hid everything).

Now that I'm older and have grown out of fetishizing gift-receiving, the torturous part of surprises is keeping them from others. It takes all my restraint to avoid everything from dropping pregnant hints to spilling the beans outright. Keeping happy secrets is not my forte.

This is a long lead for a wee punchline: Miss May is complete. She is daaaaaarling. Of course that is no... surprise to me, since I'd seen Baby MJ's. But still. You gotta see her. And I'm pleased that I survived learning to crochet for this. But since she's a gift for my sis and her baby-to-be, no peeking 'til the package arrives in the Pacific Northwest. Got it? Got it? Ya hear me?

Well, okay, you twisted my arm. Just one little peek won't kill us.

Oops, I did it again.

Look for a full reveal in the coming weeks.

Oh, and what a lot of interest in a Zimmermann-Along! I'll keep you updated on its progress, and let you know when signups begin...

I can't keep fun secrets either. But Miss May looks like it's beyond precious! The ribbon looks perfect.

So cute! I have Miss May fever too, but I think I waited too long and my friend's baby is too big now!

Just thought I'd let you know that you've set off the madness Chez Kodachrome: I just ordered EZ's _Knitter's Almanac_ and _Knitting Without Tears_. Thanks (in advance) for the idea and the organizing of the KAL. I'm looking forward to it.

the secret-keeping is so hard... i always want to drop little hints, or convince the recipient to play 20 questions. good luck keeping this one-- the sneak peek is beautiful!
