Miss May Through Labor Day

Weeeell, I was going to wait until I could post photos of my finished Razor Cami to blog again. But when I reached for my camera this morning, I remembered that Chris took it with him on his five-day trip to England (The smarty pants is presenting a paper at Oxford at the end of the week! If that doesn't smarten up one's pants, I don't know what does.) Since, therefore, there will be no FO report for the Razor Cami until next week, I might as well post what I've got.

I've finished knitting the body of Miss May, a Victorian chemise pattern from Weldon's Practical Needlework, Vol. 4, with adaptations for a small baby by Ms. Blue Garter. It's now blocking and awaiting seaming and a (gasp!) crocheted border, which will be my first experience with more than single-chain crochet. Since it's a gift for my niece-to-be, I will only provide peeks until it's mailed off to my sister. No ruined surprises here, no ma'am.

Miss May Sneak Peek

Nothing much else to report, except that I used my Aran Felted Hot Water Bottle for the first time last night under unfortunate circumstances: I suspect that I have an ear infection. It did not interfere, however, with a relaxed, enjoyable Labor Day (a few photos here). We hung out with our recently-engaged friends Jenny Narcoleptikov and Denny (a/k/a "The Ennys") at The Frying Pan and caught a quite-exciting Cyclones game down at Coney Island. Hope your holiday was equally enjoyable, and included a satisfying hot dog or three. (okay, okay, or veggie dog. have it your way!)

aww, do feel better, jess. ear infections are the worst. :(

can't wait to see you look all hot and foxy in that cami. woohoo!

p.s. you hate "Casablanca"?! *gasp* i mean, it's not top ten fav of mine and i do find it overrated but you downright "hate it"? awww. . .

You'll be fine with the crochet border, I'm sure. Crochet Guild of America has some decent tutorials on their website (under "Resources").

sorry about the infection, but how great to get to use your hot water bottle! not a lot of occassions to use it, i'm sure.

and crochet's a breeze. the "happy hooker" is really a great primer.

I like the look of the "peek" and I'm excited to see the whole thing--I love garter stitch! I hope your ear feels better!

The chemise -i always think "shimmy"(victorian cockney slang) for chemise ever since reading Sarah Waters' Fingersmith - is so sweet.
At least the hottie cover got its first run.

yuck, ear infections are the worst. there is an OTC eardrop you can get that seems to work pretty well. It's called Similisan (I think for kids, actually) that you should be able to get at Duane Reade or CVS.

Also- where did you get a hot water bottle? I don't even know where to look.

Hope your ear infection clears up soon and isn't very painful.

Lucky Chris getting to go the England.

I just managed to get crochet after giving it up years ago. It's not that bad if you can find someone who isn't all hung up on the "proper" way to hold the yarn.

Love the pictures of your vacation. They look like beautiful places to visit.

How did you know what the adaptations by Ms. Blue Garter for a small baby were? OOOHHH I just love Miss May, but alas I am not very experienced at making pattern adjustments...

yeah! ms may! it's looking just gorgeous. i really love that pattern.

sorry to hear that you have an ear infection :( at least you don't have to work through it!

Hi!
I just recently discovered your blog as well (this is the joy of clicking on links through links from delightful blogs). I see you've made quite a few great things! I'm particularily inspired by your counterpane carpet bag from HH - I've been trying to push that one up on the "To Knit" list for ages!
You trip looks like it was wonderful.

Oooh, I'm so excited there's going to be a second Miss May out to frolic in this century! Ms. Leslie Crosby can email me for the pattern if you have her contact information...

Can't wait for the finished pictures. And let's all raise a glass to Elizabeth Z. and her clever patterns. I'm reading through The Knitter's Almanac right now and it rocks.
