New-Lamp-a-Thon

Update: Thought I'd add a photo of the place where the lamp will actually go - on that dresser, next to the chair, below. The plan for that chair is to redo the cushion (maybe *that's* where Amy Butler should come in) and possibly paint the chair itself white. But who knows when that will happen! Another option is the pendant Knappa lamp I bought a while back from IKEA, over the chair. I wonder whether that might deflect attention from the pipes and circuit box. In any case...

One of these lamps is in contention for our bedroom...

AT Week 6 BedroomNook for lamp 001wavy lamp

... to go not next to the bed, but atop this dresser across the room (without all the junk on it).

We're also debating whether to put the clotheslines back up (they came down when we painted), or to think up something new. One idea knocking around: we could get 2-4 wood frames, the kind you stretch a canvas over, and stretch some pieces of Amy Butler fabrics over them. You know, in place of "art," which I suppose is the word we use (somewhat controversially) for stuff we can't afford.

Okay, enough with the home improvement. I PROMISE... a finished object report for Calla is forthcoming before Friday!

I like the Wavy Lamp. It's the most distinctive.

Okay, all of those lamps are incredible. I like the orange one best, followed by the blue. And I think the fabric idea is a really good one (certainly better than anything I have going on!)

I vote for the squatty lamp with the silver base. The others seem too tall for a dresser. Mom

Posted by: Mom at June 21, 2006 3:34 PM

I like the blue one. It has simple, clean lines. The fabric idea is great!

Posted by: Lori at June 21, 2006 3:35 PM

I vote for the red/orange one. Cool color. Cool design.

Posted by: Knitting Momma at June 21, 2006 4:36 PM

Orange all the way--it marries best with the colors and textures in your bedroom.

Posted by: hellahelen at June 21, 2006 4:39 PM

I agree with Mom.

Posted by: Mandy at June 21, 2006 5:06 PM

definitely the orange one.

and i vote to leave up the clothes pins (or something that can keep that idea going). it's more personal -- and something that you can change out when you need something fresh.

Posted by: jennie at June 21, 2006 5:09 PM

Your clothes pins were the first thing I noticed in the photo. Its a great idea! If the dresser is staying the color/ finish it is I would do the light blue one. However, my first choice would be to paint the dresser a swedish light blue and then use the rust lamp.

Posted by: gina l at June 21, 2006 5:55 PM

I think the red lamp would go best on top of the dresser.

Sigh. I guess it's pretty sad that Amy Butler yardage would be a "splurge" in my apartment. Maybe I could sew a bunch of fat quarters together instead...

I recently fell in love with some crewel valances that are cotton-linen, made in India, adorable. I had to momentarily pause my aversion to Wal-Mart to buy them.

Keep up the home improvement posts! We've got such similar tastes...and budgets. It's good.

I like the orange one or the turquoise one; either one is very mod-looking, fun, and lends a nice shot of color!

Posted by: Julia at June 21, 2006 9:12 PM

The orange one. Totally. But then you knew I would say that, right?

Posted by: Jenn at June 21, 2006 10:26 PM

I say orange lamp too but I like the shape of the base of the blue one better. I agree with Jennie on the clothespins - I think it's charming.

Posted by: Delica at June 21, 2006 11:14 PM

I think you have way too much going on in the room already for another "distinctive" piece--the silver one would tie in with the starburst quite nicely.

Posted by: alana at June 21, 2006 11:35 PM

LOVE the orange one! Is Catty ready for a close up yet? Pumpkin's been bugging me :)

i'm crazy about the forest pod motif and plan to use it in my new apartment. that doesn't help you, but i wanted to share.

Posted by: carrie m at June 22, 2006 12:24 AM

I really like that orange one. the color and the shape are interesting!

Posted by: Coleen at June 22, 2006 12:54 AM

The Robin's Egg Blue lamp is my favored choice.

Posted by: Louise at June 22, 2006 9:58 AM

They are all great - nice shapes! While i see Mom's point, i think the orange one would brighten up that area and provide a visual link to the orange pillows on the bed.

I've taken a long break from working on my apt but I think I'm going to start it up again. Julien and I have been cooking up some interesting ideas. Check my blog soon. I have an idea for your pipes and power box... how about painting them with magnent paint and sticking cool magnets all over the place? Or maybe doing some kind of cool paper mache over the power box? Or yes, I have another one.... mosaics are a really popular interior trend here in Europe right now. I could see some cool mosaic over that power box door? I vote for either the orange lamp or the blue one. The silver one is too space, I think.

Posted by: Aimee at June 22, 2006 6:27 PM

Hmmm, kinda like the red one.

Posted by: colleen at June 22, 2006 9:32 PM

I like the silver one too. It matches your funky silver artwork without overpowering it. And I like the shape of the shade.

I like the orange lamp best.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I prefer a blown-up, close up of a flower to a paint splattered canvas that costs a bloody fortune and doesn't really look like anything. Just my preference though. Some people can find the words in the paint splatters that seem to escape me.
Seems like some fabrics are so beautiful they deserve a bit of wall space.

We were at the Hyatt in Macau this past weekend and the bed in the room has no headboard but instead there's a nice 'feature board', actually a big piece of printed canvas-like fabric mounted on a board, frameless against the wall. I'm poor at describing, I hope you get what I'm trying to say. As for the lamp, it's hard to decide.

i must not be the only one that loved the idea of the clothespins & twine for photos/postcards/ephemera in Gia. ;]

personally, i love the wavy and the bubble lamps, but i'm a sucker for mod & color.

Don't you understand that it is correct time to get the loans, which would help you.
