This is just to say

Dear Readers,

A dispatch:

Today during bar review (Day 2 of "NY Practice," incidentally), I wanted to stab myself in the temple with my pen three times and asked my neighbor to strangle me once.

This is just to say that bar review is very, very dull. And very, very scary, considering in two months I will be asked to remember the ins and outs of 22 areas of law with some degree of accuracy.

Who wants to knit me a second brain?

This is also just to say I have had NO time to knit since the first days of bar study. The next two months looks bleak, bleak, Dear Readers. With a little luck I'll be able to manage my half of the Circle of Friends blanket before Baby de la Em is done cooking.

Until then, I'll be here, keeping away from sharp instruments. Maybe it's a good thing I'm staying away from my Addis.

As ever,
Jessica

Embrace bar review. Become one with bar review. Bliss out on the boredom. Study your ass off. You will be glad you did.

Good luck.

Best of luck with the bar review. I lived through my husband's review and subsequent wait for the bar results--yipes. We can only move to states with reciprocity with Illinois because I can't go through it again! My (unsolicited) advice while you're studying: take some time to knit, have a good cup of coffee with a friend, and play with the cats. You'll be able to handle "sharps" again soon.

Good luck - I'll be sending good thoughts your way!

I sat through two months of California Bar Review tapes while my husband studied six years ago. We were moving so he couldn't take a class. I distinctly remember almost crashing the car between Phoenix and San Diego while we listened to "Wills and Trusts".

I have an incredible amount of empathy for you. There is nothing on earth more mind-numbing than bar-review. And there is nothing more terrifying than the thought of not passing the bar.

Good luck, I wish you well.

Keep pluggin', we can wait. It hurts to say but, the bar is more important than knitting!! Eep, is that true?

Posted by: Julia at May 31, 2006 1:48 AM

Good luck! I just passed the MA Bar, so my advice to you is don't go to bed without doing at least 50 MBEs a day and at least 3 essays--review all answers to get the law. Do 1 practice MBE (and MPT for NY) every week before the Bar--insane, but effective. NY is tough and I will be doing that one in February, but it is doable. Stay away from the needles. ;)

Godspeed, Figgy!

My deepest sympathies...My sister is also going through the bar review classes. Thank heavens she doesn't knit, so there are no sharp pointy objects or potential garrotes nearby. Have a safe and sane two months!

i went through 75% of the bar review classes with my computer on my desk and esquire (mag) in my lap. it was the only way i could keep my boredom filters occupied enough to not throw myself out of the window but maintain enough regular brain function to type at every designated fill-in-the-blank.
good luck -- and remember -- trashy magazines are your friends.

Are you taking BarBri? I did BarBri and the CA bar in February (and passed!) - every moment of my life from January 1 to the end of the bar sucked. I totally feel your pain. Try to avoid stabbing yourself in the eye though, difficult as it may be. :) Just do as the BarBri folks say (or whatever review course you are taking), and you'll be plenty prepared for the test. You won't feel like it, but you will be! Good luck to you!

Best of Luck to you on the bar exam. You are going to kick so much ass. I fled NY after law school and drove/moved down here to Texas to take the bar (oil and gas law?? community property?? commercial friggin paper?? wtf!!). But I passed! My advice--timed practice MBE every day and consolidating each subject into one sheet of paper that you memorize memorize memorize. Treat studying like your full-time job until July. Study from 9 to 6, take a one hour lunch break and do something fun in the evening. Then after July 4th, increase your study hours but make sure to relax or you'll burn out.

Oh, I feel your pain. The only thing I learned from the bar review course was how much I didn't learn in law school. But, you'll get through it. It won't be the best summer ever, but passing will be worth it. It's worth it to take a few minutes and knit - it'll make you feel better.

hang in there jess!!! it'll be over soon :)

I'm finally delurking in order to wish you the best with the dull exam prep, and to commiserate a wee bit with you-- :)

When I read this morning that your next two months will be "bleak, bleak," I admittedly thought, "Great...misery loves company." I say this because I too have to put aside the needles (what was I thinking by signing up for the Amazing Lace?!?) because the albatross that has become my dissertation must be completed in the next eight weeks or the s**t is going to fly with my advisory committee.

Here I was moaning away, thinking everyone else had such a great summer stretching out before them, full of fun things and lots of knitting. Thankfully for the knit-blog community, I found someone else who will be wanting to throw themselves out the window this summer. Sweet!

Seriously, all the best to you, and "bon courage", as the French say--

Well, we were living in a house built in 1740 when my husband was studying for the bar. I was in grad school and we couldn't afford to heat this 3 story, 2 rooms per floor stone house with anything other than a wood stove (and you thought heat rose--hah, it's a myth!) All I can say is that he chopped alot of wood that summer as an antidote to the bar review course and it was the only winter of the three years that we lived there that we were warm. Avoidance can be a wonderful thing sometimes. (he passed!) Good luck. Brings back some memories.

Best of luck to you. I had a friend endure Bar Review several summers ago. I think I am scared from the vicarious experience.

Posted by: Gina at May 31, 2006 12:38 PM

Good luck! I know you'll be great, just stay away from anything pointy or noose-like.

Posted by: E to the M at May 31, 2006 2:29 PM

Good luck!! I think you should wear the fabulous Law School Prom Shoes as much as you feet and legs can stand them during bar review. :) Nothing makes boring stuff more bearable than admiring your own taste in shoes.

Posted by: Alison at May 31, 2006 3:21 PM

Yikes, that sounds very tough, although it will be worth it in the end :)

Lot's of luck with the study, test and sharp objects.

Your neighbor strangles you at your request . . . what criminal liability could they face, if any? Sorry, I couldn't help it.

Best of luck to you Jess! I totally feel your pain, and don't you worry, it will over over sooner than you think! And you'll pull through it fabulously, I'm sure! (But you may need a double dose of caffiene for those Contracts bar review sessions)

Good luck with the studying, I'll be thinking of you :) {hugs} x

Ack. It sounds dire!

Gook luck! Keep your head down and your pen hand loose!

If you go to the classes and keep up with the outlining you will be fine for the NY Bar. I hit BarBri classes in the morning, took a short lunch break, then did the outlining/exercises until dinner, essentially treating it like a job. I very rarely cracked open the books after dinner -- a brain can only handle so much. When your brain is no longer absorbing material, go for a quick walk. I recommend staying away from the library and the other nervewracked, crazed fellow bar-studiers, and find a coffee shop instead. When I was studying for the bar, by the end of June, my coffee shop actually kept a table open for me! You'll be fine!

Good luck on the bar. Now, let me give you the most useful piece of advice anyone gave me while I was studying for the bar: you will crack at some point. So when it happens to you, accept it and move on. (and if it doesn't happen to you please don't tell me about it. I need to retain the delusion......)
