Show and Tell

Voila, the Knitpicks Shine I ordered for my half of the Circle of Friends Baby Blanket from Last Minute Knitted Gifts:

Knitpicks Shine

Gotta say, I'm not crazy about the orange, a/k/a apricot, colorway, though I like it more than when it first arrived. I was hoping for something a little darker. My fellow blanket knitter Amanda and I will have to have a powwow about this. The Circle of Friends blanket is just one of many baby projects on the horizon. Another in consideration is the Papoose from Knitting for Two - Sarah just finished the cutie-piest one, and it seems fairly useful.

Along with the Shine I kicked in a couple of balls of navy Essential sock yarn, in the name of free shipping over $40. It will be used for either Steph's Mata Hari socks or the lace knee-highs from the Winter '04 IK.

Knitpicks Essential

And finally - allright, allright. So you want to see what's on page 12? I'll show you what's on page 12. Yes, well, there it is.

How cool! You're gorgeous. :)

And I've made precisely one-half of one of those interweave lacey socks. But I used the yarn they suggested (the tweed) and it's really splitty. So I kind of tossed it aside and haven't looked back in a while.

Maybe that should have been my amazing lace project over the summer or something. Ahem.

Aaaaah! Page 12! Page 12!

I think you should embrace the Apricot. Is Amanda using the same colors?

Posted by: Jenna at May 21, 2006 7:34 AM

V. cool. How did you do that? I looked for the mag in the supermarket yesterday, but there were none in the checkout aisle where I was waiting.

Posted by: colleen at May 21, 2006 8:28 AM

Oh my gosh, you're a star! That really is a flattering 'do for you. Funny, my hair is exactly like the "before" picture, and I was thinking I need a little summer pick-me-up. I never thought to consult First magazine!

Posted by: megan at May 21, 2006 9:05 AM

Wow -- you look great! I have the same issues with the apricot, thinking it looked more orange than the bland peachy-ish it ends up being. And it seems to really be a deceptive one, cause even in this picture it looks more orangey than it really is. Once I knit with it, I grew to like it better, but I definitely get that initial disappointment.

I love that papoose, and I've been wanting to make those lace knee highs for a bit (though I don't have that IK!)

you're such a hottie! :) those photos look great and that cut is really great on you. do you straighten your hair often? i always have trouble finding the time to straighten mine.

i love all those colors of shine. i'm glad they added to the color collection this year.

Posted by: gleek at May 21, 2006 9:48 AM

I actually like the orange, but I concede that it might not blend as well with the blues and greens as one would hope.

And you look great in that picture. :)

Posted by: naomi at May 21, 2006 9:59 AM

How cool - the cut does look great! Has your family bought every single copy of the magazine available on the east coast? That's what my mom did for my 10 seconds of fame.

Posted by: MeBeth at May 21, 2006 10:46 AM

Ooooh! That's a huge spread! I think you look good in both the before and after pictures...

Posted by: Veronique at May 21, 2006 11:09 AM

Looks great! I was looking all over for this mag yesterday. I couldn't remember why - all I could remember was "page 12." Now I know!

Posted by: Jen Showalter at May 21, 2006 11:19 AM

Ooh, I like the papoose too. Shame there are no babies for me to knit for anymore... And *very* cute photos in the mag, btw.

Jess your shoot is SO BEAUTIFUL! Hubby and I were in (gasp) Walmart getting a canister for gas (we made it home on fumes only to wake up this morning to sputtering...no gas). I saw the First mag and shouted to Mr Wonderful that you were in it. So we had to take a gander! I love it!

I like the photos you took of yourself with the new cut way better. I like the Apricot, I think it's a nice bright in your tonal range.
How do you like the shine? I'm considering it in the sport weight for a top. Maybe I'll order a color card of it first.

Posted by: Julia at May 21, 2006 7:53 PM

How fun! The cut looks great. :)

Posted by: Chris at May 21, 2006 10:51 PM

Wow! You look stunning! Thanks for showing us the magazine!

Posted by: Katarina at May 22, 2006 4:45 AM

don't worry about the apricot shine. i really didn't like it when i first bought it for this blue and white and "peach" striped sweater i am working on. but it really does grow on you.

You look like a grown-up Winnie Cooper, and you have to know that that is high praise from me since I spent most of my childhood wishing I was Winnie Cooper. And the actress is some sort of math savant.

I've always admired those knee-highs. Go for it! I remember the pattern called for four balls of Yorkshire Tweed or maybe Rowanspun, and that would be one rather expensive pair of socks. With Essential, though, you could knit a whole drawerful of 'em.

And look at you all famous and stuff! ;-)

I actually just finished a Circle of Friends blanket with some other bloggers. It turned out really cute. The colors you're using are great. I saw the magazine at the grocery store check-out and looked while I waited in line. I thought you looked quite fabulous.

Posted by: Stephanie at May 22, 2006 11:55 AM

Wow! You look gorgeous! I love the hair and the necklace. :)

I think the apricot will look great, the colors are going to really belnd nicely.

Posted by: Rebecca at May 22, 2006 1:05 PM

I have never 'known' anyone in a magazine before - my Mom actually buys that magazine when she grocery shops too. I will have to tell her about the knitting connection.

What is this Circle of Friends blanket?
There might be a link...I will have to go back and check.

Those photos were gorgeous! But I do like the one you took of yourself after the cut better too - more personality shining through I think.

Thanks for sharing the pix - I know I would have forgotten to look until the issue was gone from the newstands. Don't take it personally - I'm just not a mag girl (unless it's knitting, of course!). The whole spread is nice. Was it fun to do?

I think the apricot will work. I prefer my oranges a bit darker too, but those colors look quite nice together IMHO.

You look amazing! Now I can tell people I know a celeb! =)

I thought those papoose-style baby bags were cute and seemed to make sense too........until I had a baby of my own. I tried to use one ONCE with our first son and never used it again. It's not easy to carry a baby in one of those, and you can't use it in a car seat. Babies kick like crazy and it seemed easier to me to just let them be free to do so than be encumbered by anything.
I gave all of them away essentially unused, and then when I received more of them when our second son was born, I exchanged them all for baby onesie suits and leggings.
I just wanted to warn you before you put time and effort into making one!
The baby blanket's going to be beautiful, apricot and all.

Fabulous magazine pictures!! I too really like the apricot, but, I've been craving bright colours lately so that may have something to do with it.

Posted by: Dorothy B at May 23, 2006 2:28 PM

You look great! Great haircut too!

Wowee!! You're a beautiful STAR!! I was just mentioning to my husband the other night how you're always sitting nearby some actor or actress at restaurants. Now I can tell him that you're a model too! Wow. And you've left a comment on my blog once too I think. heh My brush with greatness. I should go knit Birch so that I can feel like I could be half as cool as you. heh Congrats on being in the magazine! :)

Greeting. It is a paradoxical but profoundly true and important principle of life that the most likely way to reach a goal is to be aiming not at that goal itself but at some more ambitious goal beyond it. Help me! There is an urgent need for sites: Director benefit cosmetics. I found only this - benefit cosmetics owner. I want to win because I love the colors they are perfect for all the spring weddings. Great for gifts or give yourself that holiday glow with hoola bronzer and moon beam.
