I am one of those lucky students whose first exam will be held on the very first day of the two-week exam period. The first time slot of the first day of exam period, no less. That would be tomorrow at 9:30 AM - my date with Professional Responsibility. Followed by a meeting, which I'm kind of dreading, with my A-Paper advisor to discuss my current draft. Tomorrow's going to be a heck of a day, Brownie!
So you'd think I wouldn't be knitting, right? Clearly you have forgotten last year, when Simply Marilyn assisted me right through my Capital Litigation exam. This year Calla is my cramming assistant. Behold, the scene of last-minute learning:

From left to right, we have my bag, The Regulation of Lawyers by NYU's own Professor Stephen Gillers, a pile of outlines, class notes, and Model Rules of Ethics, Calla, a highlighter, Catty's bum.
By the way, Moses would like to demonstrate that she, too, is studying. Current events in her case.

Or is that the Real Estate section? Moses, you can't afford to buy in New York, honey.
Aaannyway. I have three kinds of study breaks: the one where I work on Calla, the one where I give Catty a vacation from The Cone, and the one where Chris comes home and takes me out for my daily constitutional (walk, that is). Notice my study breaks generally do not involve showering or bathing, eating, or talking to others (to the exclusion of the pleasant conversations I have with Chris during our turn around the neighborhood). I get lonely and a little mad during exams. But I digress. Calla...

She's, er, grown considerably since last time you saw her.
I'll admit to being the wee-est bit worried about fit. You see, not being used to such a slippery, slinky yarn, I'm afraid my gauge for the first half of the piece or so was a bit lax. It's adjusted in the top half, and looks to be about right now. But as this is a summer top, and drapey, I'm not untowardly worried about it being perfectly form-fitting, at least not on the bottom. And I think the shaping looks a bit exaggerated here because the needles are 20", so the top's a bit compressed. For now I'm going to stick it out. It's not a large project and I'll be okay with frogging later, promise.
Anyhoo, back to La Grindstone, comme ils disent.

good luck on the exam tomorrow!
Posted by: yahaira at April 27, 2006 6:51 PMLooks like you have all the right ingredients for studying: books, cats, and knitting! Best of luck on your exam!
Posted by: Robin at April 27, 2006 7:19 PMGood luck w/ your exams! Give Catty my best...I've been thinking about you and your little cat family a lot lately.
Posted by: Skylar at April 27, 2006 7:29 PMi'm in the same boat - our first day of exams is monday, and i have administrative law. ickaroo. the loneliness of it all is actually probably my biggest complaint about law school in general, actually. so many hours of reading by oneself (and not novels!). anyway, i too procrastinate. off to stick my head in the books. good luck!
Posted by: abby at April 27, 2006 7:41 PMkick ass tomorrow!
Now I have an urge to make brownies...mmmm...
Posted by: Julsey at April 27, 2006 8:10 PMNice French grammar. And oh, you and your Calla pictures, you are gragging me to the dark side... not that I mind, really.
Bonne chance pour ton examen demain!
Posted by: Fanny at April 27, 2006 8:12 PMGood luck on exams! Mine start on Monday and I would so much rather knit than study. Alas...
Posted by: Kym at April 27, 2006 9:16 PMI'm glad I was not yet adicted to knitting while I was in grad school. On the other hand, I have nothing to show for my *many* study breaks. You, on the other hand have created much of a lovely tank top! Good luck on your exam.
Posted by: Casey at April 27, 2006 9:17 PMYour Calla is turning out so well!
Good luck to you on your exams and my best to Catty on her recovery!
It's looking so beautiful! Great progress!
Posted by: Julia at April 27, 2006 11:51 PMWow. I may just get me some o' that yarn for my Calla.
Good luck with your exams! Your study breaks sound really great. And, like said above, showering is for losers.
Posted by: Katherine at April 28, 2006 12:22 AMoh i feel sick just reading your post! those precious hours before an exam were always the worst. i'm sure you'll do swimmingly and i'm sure calla will fit perfectly.
Posted by: carrie m at April 28, 2006 1:47 AMBest of luck! I think knitting while revising helps the information stay in your brain more. I'm not sure if watching as your knitting does the revision for you helps but it's definitely worth a shot.
Posted by: Abi at April 28, 2006 5:23 AMBest of luck on your LAST LAW SCHOOL EXAMS!! Next you have to think of a project to see you through the bar exam!
Posted by: megan at April 28, 2006 7:48 AMGood luck on the exam! Calla looks great! Give Catty a good scratch around the neck for me! (that cone can be annoying!)
Posted by: Stacey at April 28, 2006 9:07 AMGood luck on the exam!! And I adore that picture of Moses and the paper. How cute!
Posted by: Sara at April 28, 2006 10:52 AMack, exams! ew. i was unfortunate enough to have my 2L finals fall during february, smack in the middle of the knitting olympics (we go on the quarter system). i did manage to sneak in a bit of knitting, but not enough to participate, sadly. my next round of finals is at an even worse time, mid-august - not when you want to be studying all day.
good luck - i've successfully avoided PR up until now, but i've got to take it eventually. i'll be a sad girl that quarter.
Posted by: anne at April 28, 2006 12:54 PMThanks for the shot of Catty's bum and studious Moses. Oh Calla, how you have grown! It looks great so far. Might you take it off the needles and give a try-on?
Posted by: Gina at April 28, 2006 2:18 PMaak, finals. I'm having flashbacks....is the bar this summer, too?
Posted by: gretchen at April 28, 2006 2:53 PMGood luck with your exams...just try to avoid spending too much time on knitting that it cuts way into your mugging. :)
Posted by: Emy at April 29, 2006 12:16 PMHI!
It was great to meet you too! I've added you to my links list!
Hm, I haven't seen any pattern previews for Greetings from Knit Cafe yet, but if you want to check it out, just let me know and we can meet up so you can check it out. If you have time between all those fun exams that is!
Posted by: Jenn at April 29, 2006 7:31 PMBen en voilĂ une surprise! A fellow law student, knitter, et francophile en plus! I'm also in finals right now - Advanced Federal Civil Procedure begins the festivities on Tuesday - but I will bookmark your blog and I promise I'll be back. Best of luck, bonne chance, and "mot de Cambronne" to you!
