Little Bloomington, Indiana, has the most amazing community radio station, WFHB (Firehouse Broadcasting). I volunteered there for a while in college. It's not affiliated with IU or any public radio network - it's just a great little outgrowth of the progressive Hoosiers and their eclectic, but always interesting, music tastes. True, it's a bit heavy on the folky side, but you've got some thrash metal, salsa, and hip hop shows there, too. Weekends are full of an expert selection of local bluegrass and other rootsy stuff. You can get an idea of what they play by peeping their Top 100 Songs of 2005.
When I lived there, WFHB was available for online streaming, but then music companies threatened them with a buncha lawsuits because they couldn't afford the licensing. Well, I don't know what happened but it seems they're back online with a very high quality stream, available through iTunes! It just puts me right back in laid back, lovely Bloomington. You should check it out!
Listen to WFHB right now, why dontcha?
Posted by jess at April 13, 2006 9:26 PM | TrackBackI'm lost in listening to my local public radio station (MN, 89.3 the Current) that probably has a similar playlist, altho much lighter on the folk, with a dash of hip hop and way heavy on the local stuff.
Posted by: Chris at April 13, 2006 10:13 PMHi from Bloomington!
Posted by: Abril at April 15, 2006 12:30 PMI used to live in Bloomington when I was little. I have fond memories. My mom and dad worked at IU. I was too young for my own musical tastes, really, but it sounds like something I'll check out now!
Posted by: mia at April 17, 2006 8:05 PMhello! I've been reading your blog for a good while, although I had been away from it for a few days because I've been busy. I was totally surprised when I was reading to catch up--"hey, she's talking about the station!" My husband volunteers there. So, thanks for the salute, and hello from Brown County.
Posted by: aimee at April 18, 2006 10:25 PMIf you want to buy a house, you will have to receive the personal loans. Furthermore, my brother always uses a short term loan, which is the most fast.
