I'm gearing up for Apartment Therapy's group cure while waiting for the book to arrive. Who's with me? (I know Flare is!)
Thought a good way to prep might be to draw up our current floor plan. Ruminations on Flickr, if you're interested.
Posted by jess at April 4, 2006 10:52 PM | TrackBackI love floor plans! We are getting ready to move and I'm in a panic because the house is smaller than our old one and has very little closet space. But for sheer square footage, I realize I am totally spoiled. I cannot even imagine getting our stuff to fit into an apartment! I think living in a large space makes you kind of lazy about acquiring too much stuff and not being careful about how you order things.
I looked at the flickr site but am commenting here. I think you're right about using your vertical space; there's a lot of room you don't typically think about and of course, if you ever watch home improvement shows, using vertical space Draws the Eye Upward. :-)
I'm looking forward to seeing what changes you make, if any.
Thanks for sharing.
Posted by: jessie at April 5, 2006 5:53 AMWow! Interesting!
Posted by: Julia at April 5, 2006 10:19 AMVery interesting! I'm on a bender to clean, clear, and organize. I posted today about doing that, but starting with maybe my closet.
Posted by: Gina at April 5, 2006 10:27 AMJust because you have flourescent lights doesn't mean you have to turn them on! You could get some lamps to soften the light. Having seen the kitchen in person, I've always thought y'all should put up some floating shelves or something on that space above the table. (Are your walls too crumbly?)
Posted by: Jolt at April 5, 2006 11:13 AMyeah, i'm toying with floating shelves, though it's always a dicey proposition with our walls. as for the fluorescent, the problem is that it's the kitchen and we need a lot of overhead light so we don't chop our wee fingers off. i'm skeptical that lamps will be adequate, but who knows. maybe we could get those clip-on industrial-looking lamps from the hardward store.
Posted by: jess at April 5, 2006 11:36 AMi so badly want to get in on AT's group cure, but with a move coming up in two weeks i think it's impossible (too late for the current apt, too soon for the new one). it did inspire me to a massive apt purge and many many garbage bags donated to the salvation army, though. plus, i'll have lots of inspiration before i unpack...
Posted by: heather at April 5, 2006 6:47 PMI think I'm in. I ordered the book as well. I peeked through the book in the store the other day, and I was both surprised and daunted. I was expecting more of a "workbook", but I do think this will be helpful. Also pick up "Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui", which is mentioned in "Apartment Therapy". I found this very helpful, and I am mourning the loss of it. I gave it to a friend whom I thought needed it more than did.
Posted by: Gina at April 10, 2006 10:37 AMI've been lurking on your site since a google on Lady Eleanor brought me here! I just love your projects. Saw the AT book last night and remembered your floor plan. Well I'm in! I've been through a LOT of these books - but I liked the author's background in Waldorf education and his Italian bike trip. Can't wait to see what you do with your place! Thanks, Ann.
