Lookee what Fig and Plum's got its hands on:

vesper

That's right... a skein of elusive self-striping Vesper Sock Yarn from Knitterly Things in the Knit & Tonic colorway! It's gorgeous - the colors are perfect. I'm thinking it'll be a pair of simple stripey knee socks a la Tres Chic Veronique. Perhaps someday we can aspire to a colorway of our very own.

And what's this ugly duckling?

first handspun

Why, it's my first piece of handspun yarn! At the rodeo we ran into the Contemporary Handweavers of Houston demonstrating drop-spindle and wheel spinning, and Mr. Drop Spindle let me try my hand. Of course, I need another hobby like a hole in the head, but don't worry, it's not a danger in the near future. Knitting provides more distraction and relaxation than one girl needs. I felt all rustic and stuff giving it a try, though.

And as promised, here are a few (only a few because my camera ran out of batteries early in the day) photos of beautiful Houston, Texas:

Yummy sock yarn - it'll be great in knee highs. Your handspun looks marvelous.

How funny! I have that same colorway and was planning on doing knee highs as well!

Oh, Vesper, how I covet thee...

Whoa, that Skullmingo is FREAKY.

Oh yeah, that is one heck of a colorway. I love it!

If you have no designs on that sheep pin, may I have it? Cartoon sheep are my FAVORITE!!!

Birch is BEE-U-tifull!
And, if there were a fig&plum colorway would it be the colors of figs and plums (I'm envisioning purpley browns) or something else?

Congrats on a beautiful Birch - it is just gorgeous. And I love the sock yarn, too - perfect combo of blues and greens. And finally, great photos of Houston! Looks like I literally live a few blocks from your old home. I hope you had a good visit.

Wow - the planets must have been in alignment for you to get your hands on some Vesper!

WHY must you tempt me with such beauty when I'm still afraid to make a heel?

Posted by: Casey Goldsmith at March 16, 2006 1:28 PM

I love those pins!!! Did those come with the yarn?

Posted by: Julia at March 17, 2006 8:08 PM

The sock yarn is beautiful!!!

BTW, I didn't realize you were a fellow Houstonian!
