Eleanor Languishes, Birch Thrives, Silky Wool Put Out In Cold

Apparently, even though I started Lady Eleanor like three months ago and have been planning her since the summer, the entire blogging universe has beaten me to the finish. It's pathetic, really. She still awaits her fringe. I've just been so pressed for time lately, and the thought of sitting around tying five billion knots in yarn instead of doing something fun, interesting and/or important (i.e. school or clinic work) has not been exactly motivating. What I really need is to combine something fun with the 5,000,000,000 knots. Perhaps I will take Eleanor for a field trip and go join the Spiders this week.

Of course the need to do fun and/or important things has not kept me from Birch, since Birch is such an eminently portable project - squishable and light as a feather. Tons of Birch has been completed on the subway. Thank god she'll be washed before gracing the shoulders of her recipient, because otherwise, [shudder]. Anyway, she's gotten so big you wouldn't even recognize her! How fast they grow, these projects of ours. She has gotten so big, in fact, that I can now take photographs of myself making silly faces or pretending to be a mysterious Eastern European femme fatale while Birch is wrapped around my head. Not that I have done that, or would do that, with Jolt's wedding gift. Noooo. Nope. Nopety nope.

Er, sorry for the pictureless post by the way. Since there are no pictures out there.

I've been remiss in updating you on my needle switch. My review of the Bryspuns: fabulous points, crappy join. The points sped me up immensely right away, but I had to get the knack of shoving the stitches over the join. I actually think I've developed a callous on the part of my thumb used for all that shoving.

Oh wait! Not so fast... here's a random picture for you. Is anyone interested in these (pre-balled!) just-over five skeins of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool?

Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool - For Sale-

E-mail me (use the "contact" link below) if you are. Silky Wool is fabulous for all kinds of projects. I'm only getting rid of it because I associate it with an ill-conceived self-designed project I no longer care to think about. It's the color "Sandstone." Here are the rest of the specs.

UPDATE: Wowee! You love yarn, Dear Readers! I got lots of e-mails about the SW, and I'm sure it will be finding a new home presently. If you e-mailed me, I'll let you know the future of the Silky Wool tomorrow (2/7). Look for more stash purging over the next few weeks!

what a tease! and here I thought you were going to show us a little birch (why does that sound so dirty?)

I'd be interested in the yarn. How much are you selling it for?

Knitting Birch sounds like a lot more fun than tieing all those knots, but I know you'll figure out something for Lady E. I agree on the Bryspuns - and for me the points are worth the join.

Taking Lady E along to a knitting group sounds perfect - I inflict much of my finishing on my knitting group...

i'm with ya on the bryspun circs. the straights are much better. once you have a manageable # of sts, maybe you can switch! you (and your callous) will be much happier!

Don't feel bad about Lady Eleanor, I haven't even started it yet, and won't for several months. In fact, I blame you for having such a lovely Lady Eleanor that I felt I MUST make one.
:)
And then, just when I get her finished and have fallen in love, I'll be giving her away.

I was this - close to getting some kid silk haze and I swear I thought of you and put it back. I want to see birch! She will be my inspiration!

I just got a ton of this same yarn but in turquoise and I am trying to find the right rpoject. Everyone I choose it seems I need to double it up to get a reasonable guage and then I won't have enough. It is lovely yarn, though, very soft and mine is a dashing shade of slatey turquoisish blue. ;) Suggestions on a pattern for it??

I've yet to knit Eleanor, Irish Hiking Scarf AND Jaywalker. I'm wayyy behind the times.
