Not much progress to report on any knitting front. Lady Eleanor still awaits her fringe, but I have decided to go without the crocheted edge. As for the fringe itself, I'm of the opinion, like Veronique, that it's the best part of the pattern and will definitely be adding it. Birch is inching along. I've set a goal for myself of one pattern repeat per day between now and the wedding, and that puts me on track to finish with a couple of weeks to spare since I've about 23 to go. And the repeats get shorter as the pattern progresses, so she should be ready to go in plenty of time. Here she is as of Sunday (she's grown a coupla repeats since then):

In my ongoing effort to reduce the number of multicolored yarns in my stash, I've at least two multi projects on the horizon. As soon as Birch is completed, I plan to cast on for the counterpane carpet bag from Holiday Handknits and put to use the six skeins of Kureyon that have been on the shelf for about two years now. I'm also considering a second Clapotis with the remaining 7oz. of Mystical Creation Silk Merino I've got, though there's a possibility I might offer that yarn up for sale instead (if anyone's dying for it, let me know). Also, Stinkerbell has located the one more ball of Steppe I needed to have enough for the scoopy Phildar sweater, which seems like such an easy knit, so that might be coming up as well. A girl cant have enough wide neck sweaters, can she?
Oh, p.s. - I must recommend this awesome vegetarian comfort-food recipe that's still mildly healthy - Mexican-Style Lasagna from Everyday Food. C. and I made it this weekend, and it's hearty and yummy but still involves spinach, beans, and higher-fiber corn tortillas.

Posted by: lauren at January 31, 2006 11:14 AMYou'll definitely have Birch finished sooner that your due date. Once you get to the shorter rows, you may even be pumped to do more than one repeat a day. Funny! I was planning that Counterpane bag too, but I've only got 4 balls of Kureyon.. I've got to calculate..

Posted by: Iraida at January 31, 2006 4:06 PMThat Scoopy sweater is going to be gorgeous. I'm about to embark on my first sweater, but unfortunately I chose a lace pattern. I just get so bored doing stocking stitch on baby clothes, I can't imagine doing a whole "me size" panel of it.
Posted by: knitannie at February 1, 2006 3:01 AMBirch is looking lovely. It seems as though you are mastering KSH :) I am will be using KSH for the first time coming up for the Olympics. What needle size are you using?
Posted by: Beth at February 1, 2006 9:16 AMThanks for the recipe sounds yummy. Glad you're doing the fringe for Lady E, I agree it's the coolest thing about it. Your knitting is fabulous.
Posted by: Lisa at February 1, 2006 7:17 PMWow, your Birch is gorgeous! That color will be perfect for the bride!
Posted by: Katherine at February 2, 2006 5:29 PMWow, I can't wait to see Birch once it's finished :) It's looking so beautiful and delicate - I love that about lace!
The Counterpane Carpet bag from HH is another pretty pattern, it's one of the things that just grabbed me when I saw the book, but I knit a bag similar in shape and i know that if I put more than a few things in it, it starts to droop, so that would be my only concern with the Counterpane bag.
:) &Thanks for the Lasagna recipe - one of my favourite foods.
