For Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Booze and Women. For Us, Kool-Aid.

"I'm goin' to Chicago / honey but I can't take you / I'm goin' to Chicago / honey but I can't take you / There ain't nothing in Chicago / that a woman like you can do."

We're in Chicago, visiting the Family Von Fig and Plum! No posts for a few days here, but I am definitely stocking up in the land of cheap and plentiful Kool-Aid.

i was in chicago a few months ago. It's a nice old city; I really liked it. I could imagine myself living there if it weren't so effing cold around this time of year. And I noticed that they pretty much sell cheese fries EVERYWHERE which is awesome. Oh, and don't tell my boyfriend this but I think Chicago pizza is. . .overrated. Shhhhhh! Don't get me wrong, Gino's East was good eatin' and all but nothing beats a really good NY slice. And that's my two cents on Chicago.

Have a great time, Jess. :)

Kool Aid is expensive in NYC? Hm. I wouldn't have thought about that. I'm still hanging on to the first post you did with different color mixes to use as a reference when I start doing some dying myself!

How long are you in town? We're meeting to knit on Thursday night! It's Bonne Marie's KIP group - check out her site for details if you're interested!

Jess, I hope you have a *wonderful* time - the pizza is the reason I continue to go back home (okay, I guess the family members are a reason, too)!
Sandra, seriously: where in NYC do you get pizza? I had some Ray's last time I was there and was just depressed at how *wrong* it was.

Enjoy the kool-aid and Chicago. I was shocked how difficult it was to get kool-aid in my neck of the woods- it took 4 stores before I found any blue. I couldn't believe they have clear kool-aid...what good is that for dying wool?

There's clear kool-aid? Huh? How much does kool-aid in NYC cost?

Hey Cher, one of my favorite pizza places in Manhattan is Tony's Pizza on 31st and 6th. There's really nothing special about that place. Just real close to where I work and I think they, honest to God, make a damn good slice. And there are some other places in Brooklyn I enjoy as well.

To me, there is nothing more *wrong* than not being able to fold your pizza slice in half when you pick it up to eat it. (No fork and knive for me, thank you) ;)

Wow, am I behind on your blog! I'm glad you chose the blue kidsilk haze...I think it's so lovely with your friend's eyes and hair, and just screams "happy, angelic, on cloud 9 bride". I really like how your Colchique (sp?) turned out, as well. The size may be off, but it's really cute off shoulder with the buttons. It looks pretty dern soft, too. If cashmere doesn't stretch over time ( I don't know if it does or not) I think it's a keeper.

Hey...I discovered your blog about a month ago and love it...anyway, I'm a hoosier but spend a lot if time in Chicago and discover a cool and interesting yarn store there. It's Nina on Division...you might want to check it out if you are in that neighborhood!

Unrelated note: I've been coveting Erica Weiner's Swallow earrings which I discovered on your Hintbug list. Unfortunately, they're sold out... I emailed the designer and she's going to make me a pair! Yes, it's completely unimaginative to pilfer your find for myself, so I hope she can make you a pair too. Forgive me?

Longtime lurker here. Apologies about commenting re: pizza instead of knitting (i'm a huge fan of your knitting, Jess, really), but i have a lot more confidence in my food knowledge than i do in my knitting! There's SO much great pizza in NYC. In Manhattan alone, there's Lombardi's on Spring Street, DeMarco's on Houston, Una Pizza Naploeana on E 12th, Luzzo's on First Avenue, Lil' Frankie on First Avenue, Adrienne's in the Financial District, and the list goes on and on. Totonno's in Coney Island may be the best pizza ever. Enjoy!

Have a great vacation.

Looking forward to seeing Birch, what a gorgeous colour you chose.

Oh my gosh, i was just looking through your wishlist and I saw you wanted the peacock shirt from Avalove. I have that same shirt! I bought in on Prince Street like a month ago. Coolness. Great minds think alike, I suppose. ;)
