Grrrrrrr...

...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I seamed up Colchique today, and it's just as I suspected. She is too big. Her proportions seem to me all wrong. The yarn was wrong, the gauge was wrong, wrong wrong wrong. Wrong! Fuck!

And now there are a million ends to weave in, and I just feel like burning her much less finishing.

Maybe some blocking will help, but I doubt I can block her smaller. Maybe if I lengthen her in blocking, things will even up a bit. I can't even felt her because it would be pretty damned stupid to felt cashmere. Maybe getting the buttons on at the shoulder will help her hang better.

Or I could just frog her and sell the yarn.

UPDATE: Jenny Narcoleptikov's voice in my head is going "embrace the flaws embrace the flaws embrace the flaws embrace the flaws." Maybe it's not as bad as all that. She is probably wearable, even if she's not exactly form-fitting. Or maybe I just already have yarn for Diana's Demi (Vintage Style) Knitalong.

I made a gorgeous cotton sweater a few years ago that is gigantic on me. I tried shrinking it in the washer and dryer, and it's still gigantic. It's hiding in a drawer because I can't even deal with frogging it. But if it were really gorgeous yarn, it might be worthwhile to have it for another sweater.

Eek, sorry to hear that ol' Colchique doesn't fit right. :( Hate when that happens. I truly feel your pain. I'd try it on one very last time, make sure you really hate the way it looks on you and frog her. Nothing is worse than having a handknit garment hanging in your closet that you despise.

And I love that Demi! It is a beauty. It would look incredible in that cashmere. Maybe this is all a blessing in disguise.

Oh noooooooooooooooo...say it isn't so! Sorry...I really feel for you and with it being cashmere, what can you do? How about grow into it? Just kidding of course but shucks! Hope you find a solution that works well for you and for the cashmere.

I am right there with you. My recently finished sweater doesn't fit me either :T

Sucks about the sizing. Maybe you should let it rest over the weekend and see how you feel.. otherwise, my vote is for .. *chanting* Demi! Demi! Demi!

I'm so sorry that this has happened. I have another sweater in my drawer that makes me guilty every time I look at it for the same reasons.
I was talking to someone at my SnB meeting yesterday about this sort of thing. we have agreed to switch sweaters, and frog and re-ball the yarn for each other, so neither of us has to feel bad and we can all move on. frog swap, anyone?

I'm soooo sorry for you! I'm a perfectionist and I'm totally nervous that the top-down sweater I'm knitting will be too big on me. The frog swap idea could work. And that Demi is mighty purty...

aww that's too bad about the sizing. I can't picture what's wrong with it, but if you hate it then frog it!. Will you be using it for the vintage style sweater?

Posted by: yahaira at November 4, 2005 6:24 PM

That's awful; all that wasted time and effort. My humble suggestion - put it away for a few days or a week before you make any decisions (full disclosure: I'm totally rooting for Demi :)

Can you sew it together, then use the sewing machine to seam it to the right size (like Chic Knits "Boss Your Knitting Around")? I don't know if I'd have the nerve to do that to cashmere, though...

what size of the pattern/yarn gauge were you knitting?
