I thought it was a new personal smell. Sadly, not.
Did you smell it, too?
Posted by jess at October 28, 2005 11:56 AMYes, I smelled it too! I thought I was going crazy, since I do not have any maple syrup in my appartment. If this is some Halloween prank, it should be done more often.
Posted by: Veronique at October 28, 2005 2:39 PMI read about this, and I must say that I'm happy to also read that at least one "real" person has smelled it too.
Posted by: Colleen at October 28, 2005 3:13 PMyou new yorkers with your crazy smells
Posted by: yahaira at October 28, 2005 3:17 PMHoly, yes! We've had it down here at work--below Houston! What the???
Posted by: katy at October 28, 2005 3:34 PMMe too! I smelled it in Chelsea!!
Posted by: Mebeth at October 28, 2005 4:19 PMI don't know if this could possibly shed any light on the situation, but there's a building on the campus where I work (the University of Texas in Austin) that gives off a maple smell. It's a "chilling station" that generates cool air by evaporating large amounts of water. I think the chilled air is used for climate control, but I'm actually not sure. Anyways, it usually smells like a combination of maple and celery, but some days it gets more celery-ish and other days more maple-y.
Posted by: susan at October 28, 2005 5:11 PMThat is the weirdest story! New york is weird. Things like this would never happen on the weat coast. ;p
Posted by: Julia at October 28, 2005 9:16 PMI totally smelled it. We were out and, um, drunk, and wondered if it was something to do with our intoxicatedness and brushed it off. Is it still unexplained?
