And one more circular-type (we think) shrug from Suss Cousins Designs. Thanks, Gwen!

I suspect all these sweaters have the same basic shape as the free vintage pattern - the cut is simply a matter of proportion. The sweater is made in one piece, kind of a T-shape, and then the three pieces are folded in and some of the sides are sewn together to form armholes. The cut and fit are just a question, I think (anyone else have thoughts?) of the size of each piece.
Posted by jess at July 27, 2005 9:59 AMI think you are right about the construction. I'm going to buy Suss' pattern, so I'll let you know if there's anything else important of which you should be aware. Both Blue Sky Alpaca's worsted alpaca and cotton will work for the Suss pattern. Might be nice in cotton, what do you think?
I really need to get independently inspired with my knitting. Almost done with Clapotis, which I started thanks to your writing about it. Now I want the Suss sweater. At least I'm on the opposite coast! Really, I'm not stalking you... :P
Posted by: julia at July 27, 2005 12:00 PMThese things are appearing everywhere now, wth is going on here! lol
So the UO one is the child of the suss one and the vintage one I think. I swear this is the goldilocks of patterns.
I'll do some more detective work! (Why am I constantly screaming?)
Posted by: yahaira at July 27, 2005 12:33 PMjust curious as to where i can take a lot at the vintage one that is similar to this?
Posted by: Donna Marie at July 27, 2005 2:16 PMThat new Suss pattern looks the closest to the original from Urban. It seems like one that could be a try on as you go too for better fit, but then again it also looks kind of stretchy (depending on the yarn you use). Either way, cute, cute sweater.
Posted by: Sarah at July 27, 2005 3:00 PMThat is so cute, thanks for inspiring over here. I'd love to knit that, but a bit pricey for just a pattern. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Posted by: Lily at July 27, 2005 6:51 PMDo they email you the pattern if you buy it or do you get a paper in the mail? I'm confused by their website...anyone know?
Posted by: kmouse at July 28, 2005 1:03 AMkmouse-
I ordered the pattern from Suss. I was hoping for email delivery, but, alas, a hard copy via mail is the only choice.
Posted by: julia at July 28, 2005 12:04 PMhuh...that is rather old-school. oh well. what did they charge you for shipping? how long did it take? i tried to call them but it was their fax machine so all i got was a beeee-eeeep(!).
Posted by: kmouse at July 28, 2005 3:03 PMI ordered 2 patterns ($7 each) and the shipping was $1.16. I'm not sure if the extra pattern made any difference in the shipping cost. Pretty pricey for a pattern, but I've been drooling over the "scarf cardigan" (which to me looks more like a coat) for a while now, so I took the opportunity to get it as well. The only thing about it that doesn't thrill me is the fact that she just HAD to mention in the item description that Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock each bought one. Oh well.
Posted by: julia at July 28, 2005 7:51 PMEw. Celebrities.
Posted by: kmouse at July 30, 2005 3:49 AMi'm a sucker - i got my bf to stop by Suss Designs on our way to Santa Monica. lol. he bought me the pattern 10 minutes before the store closed. the pattern differs from the Yesterknits pattern. No T-shape here.
oh, and of course, i went into UO over at 3rd St Promenade in Santa Monica and the sweater didn;t look quite as good as it does on the model. (although i do own a long sleeve version of this sweater by Free People from last season and i think that one looks nice.)
anyhow, the back of the sweater is a seam - so i think they knitted to half citcles with the sleeves then stitched it up teh back. oh, and the collar - it looks like the knitted it as a large rectangle then sewed it along the outter edge of the sweater (all the way around)
the suss design is REALLY REALLY basic. but i got it cheaper at the store than the online price - it was $6.49 with tax. but then again, the bf paid for it since i'm a poor college student.
