So I think I've found a good solution to the Union Square Market Pullover problem. After seeing the Dalegarn Baby Ull with mine own eyes down at Knit-Away, I've decided the colors are just too bright and baby-fied to be what I want. A few substitutes have been tossed about on the knitalong, but none come in enough colors to fit the bill, and some of them look like they'll take a lot of work to get gauge. And then, after wracking my brain, it dawned on me: what about Morehouse merino lace weight? The gauge seems right, the yardage is good, and it comes in loads of colors. I posted the idea on the knitalong page to see whether people there thought it might be a good substitute.
I'm 85% sure, unless someone dissuades me on the basis of yarn quality or substitution problems, that I'm going with Morehouse. Colors shall be Olive (MC) and (probably) Cranberry (CC).
And the funny thing is, if I order from there, I will pick up the yarn at the Morehouse booth in none other than the Union Square Market. Perhaps it's kismet.
Posted by jess at July 23, 2005 3:00 PMYou are going to love knitting with the Morehouse Merino Lace-weight. I'm making socks with it right now and it feels lovely. It might be a little smaller than the yarn in the pattern though. I'm using size US1 needles for it.
Good luck though and if it turns out, it does seem like Kismet, doesn't it.
I'll be moving back to NY in early September. We should get together for lunch or something!
