First Aran Cables

arancloseup.JPG aran1.JPG

I'll admit progress shots don't usually send me, but I want to share this one with you because it's my first aran cable, and I'm in love with it. It's the first 3" of the Aran Hot Water Bottle Cover from Summer '02 Interweave Knits. Slow going, but so entertaining compared to the stockinette wasteland of the Hourglass sweater (photos tomorrow), which had me in fits by the end. Yes, it's true: fits!

I have never exactly used a hot water bottle, but, much like the case with iPod covers, a cool accessory is enough to get some easily-swayed people (like me) hooked on the thing itself. Anyway, it seems like a good idea.

In other news, The Gates open tomorrow in Central Park!

SO PRETTY! (I lost my cable needles. all of them. they may be somewhere in my house, but not that I can see right now... SHOPPING TIME!)

Oooh, you have fallen for the siren song of Aran. I know that song well. It looks great so far!

Are you going to the gates? If so, please review them... I'll be in NY in 2 weeks and can't decide whether it's worth planning a visit.

it's g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s. i love that pattern. random question though - who ACTUALLY has a hot water bottle? where does one even get a hot water bottle?

Sometimes there is nothing like knitting an accessory, I think that is why I need to knit a dog sweater every once and a while to keep things interesting. Small project appeal to me that is why I haven’t committed to the hourglass sweater. Your water bottle cover is great, as always, I love visiting your blog.

OOOOOOOOh, I love the cables. I had a roommate who used his hot water bottle all the time at the foot of his bed when it was cold (we were too cheap to turn on the heat most of the time). I'm pretty sure my boyfriend would appreciate it if I would use one of those for my feet instead of him! :)

i was wondering if i could get my hands on a copy of your pattern for the aran hot water bottle cover? i wanted to make this for a friend for her birthday, but when i went to find the pattern in my Interweave Knits summer 05 issue, i couldn't find it. i emailed IK and they said it was in the summer 02 issue. that perplexed me since i just started knitting last year and would never have seen 02 issue, but when i googled 'aran hot water bottle cover', this was one of the first places i ended up. then i remembered that your blog was where i originally saw this pattern...way back in february when you posted it. anyway, i suppose i didn't need to go into all that. i have no idea how to get a hold of the summer 02 issue, so i was wondering if you'd be willing to send me a copy? just a shot in the dark. you can email me at thusgirl@ku.edu.
