I Love My Body - Hourglass Sweater Progress

hourglassprogress.JPG

Here's the progress I've made on my LMKG hourglass sweater - the lower body is complete. It's my first sweater, so it's exciting to see it take shape.

It's going to snow here in NYC this weekend. I adore snow, even here, where everyone says it turns grey and slushy instantly. Actually I think, for the most part, that's an exaggeration New Yorkers tell outsiders and each other to reinforce their grittiness. New York actually looks quite pretty in the snow, even the parts without trees. It piles up on windowsills and architectural details and stoops. Snow absorbs a lot of sound, so it really quiets the city. My neighborhood and Prospect Park are particularly beautiful. I can't wait.

I am so in love with that sweater. I am planning to make it very soon. May I ask which yarn you chose? Did you go with the Noro? I am thinking about Lambs Pride. I am looking foward to more progress!

i went with the noro b/c i found it cheap on ebay - $80 for a 10 pack with 50g balls (UK only... i think US is 40g). i *love* the yarn. lambs pride would probably work very well, though it's a smidge bulkier, i think, than the noro. you should check out the hourglass knit-along - there's a button on the left-hand side of the site. people over there are substituting with all sorts of stuff - rowan R2, peace fleece, etc.

Re: snow, I concur heartily. But then, I'm originally from Maine so it makes sense.

I've been meaning to report: Enjoyable blog. And you and me, we ain't so different. I am a knitter / law school student (Brooklyn Law School) / Brooklynite (Carroll Gardens). So hello there.

I've also been contemplating a knitting blog. Aside from a sister-in-law in Philadelphia, I have no fellow knitting-addicts to ooh and ahh with. (My roommates include a kitten who simply appreciates the fun factor of yarn and a boyfriend who responds with good-natured... well, I'm not sure whether it's tolerance or enthusiasm.)

Oh, and the oh-so-revealing iPod exercise:

John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan
Twilo Thunder - Sasha
I Know You Tried - Luna
The Work Song - Maria Muldaur
Cannonball - Damien Rice
Double Concerto, Opus 102 - Brahms
Status Back Baby - Frank Zappa
Walkie Talkie - DJ Shadow
In Walked Bud - Thelonious Monk
Rodeo Clowns - G. Love and Special Sauce

hey abby, you're right about dem similarities! it's always nice to see fellow brooklyners on this blog, and even nicer to see law students who find time to do other things, e.g. knit. thanks for your nice comment about the blog - glad you enjoy it :)

at some point i'd like to get a knitting circle started in brooklyn. i'm not really into the yarn store ones.
