The NYC Marathon streaked through our neighborhood this morning, and C. and I were there to cheer on our friend Amanda, who came from Chicago to join the pack. I have to admit to being a marathon skeptic, of the "That sounds awful, why would you do that to yourself?" variety. I'd never seen the marathon before, but during the hour we spent scanning for Amanda and encouraging other runners, my mind was changed. It was inspiring to see so many people challenging themselves and running for others, and to hear the crowds cheering them on. We spotted Amanda around 11:30; she was doing great, and we were thrilled to be there to cheer her on. I'm so proud of her!
Maybe I'll run when I turn 30.
