Convertible Mitten Progress

I finished the first of what will, hopefully, be two Convertible Mittens. The yarn I chose looks a lot more attractive as a mitten than it did as a ball, so that's a relief.

It strikes me that the mitten looks extremely long. I have tiny hands, so my sense of proportion is skewed. C. tried them on - his hands are slim-ish, and they were, surprisingly, only a wee bit long on him. I'm hoping Clayton's hands will fill out the space. Still, to look at them off, they are freakishly long.

Also the decrease on the top of the mitten is rather pointy - I kind of wish it was more rounded. At present, the top of the mitten looks like a triangle with the top lopped off. (how I wish I had my camera). The decrease goes like this:

Starting w/ a round of 48 stitches.

round 1: Sl1, K1, psso, K20, k2tog, Sl1, K1, psso, K20, k2tog
round 2: knit
round 3: Sl1, K1, psso, K18, k2tog, Sl1, K1, psso, K18, k2tog
round 4: knit

... and so on. Any ideas for making the top rounder? Should I try a different kind of decrease? If someone comes up with something good I might frog the top and redo it.

All in all, though, I am pretty happy with the result!
