Stupidest Sock Mistake Ever

I am going to have plenty of practice knitting socks by the time my first pair is actually finished. I am through one and a half socks, and I have to start completely over. If you think you've ever made a really, really dumb knitting mistake, this will make you feel better:

When I bought the materials to make the socks, I glanced at the pattern, which read:

1 set (4) size 1 double pointed needles

Which I interpreted, naturally, to mean size 4 needles.

I did wonder why the first sock was enormous. And no, I am a sloppy knitter and did not take gauge but instead eyeballed it, and it seemed fine to me at first. Now at least my stupidity has provided a sock run-through, so my next effort should be nearly perfect.

Signing off, while I prepare to bang my head against the wall several times.

I just finished my first pair of socks, including several mistakes. I just kept knitting, figuring it'd be better to finish something and make note of my mistakes as I go. I don't like to frog when YO are involved. I'm sure my next pair will be perfect, just like yours will be!
