Nuyorican Artist James De La Vega Arrested for Bronx Mural

nude - james de la vegaThe NY Times reported today that Nuyorican muralist James De La Vega was arrested for painting a big fish jumping from a large fishbowl into a small glass on the side of a Bronx warehouse. People in the Bronx just don't see De La Vega's work as graffiti, and neither do I. In fact, his work is pretty damned great. Check out some of De La Vega's paintings and see for yourself. I especially enjoyed that one of Fidel included in the Times article: "Even Fidel is a Yankee."

I believe that De La Vega’s work is inspirational and uplifting toward the Nuyorican community. His work gives me motivation and it has reason, each piece has positive meaning about our world as Nuyoricans. James De La Vega is an exceptional and talented young man who stimulates every bystander with his influential passages. I am appreciative of his work and inspiration to the community.

I was in Manhattan in 2001 and 2003 for holiday and Tourism. I have seen De La Vega's work, and I was so agree, and I found his work is genius. I studing Arts in France, and this street art have influence my work. I was gone on his galery or shop next to Central Park whith my Sister, and if I prefer grafitys in the streets, i like his painting too. I don't understand why us authorities can be arrested to did art. Art is not all the time in the same optic of the academic arts. good luck.
